AFC Wimbledon narrowly missed out on the double last night as they lost by the odd goal to champions Staines Town.
In a night of drama it was to be a very contentious decision from the referee's assistant that put paid to the dream double.
Jordan Hutchinson put AFC ahead with a superb half volley after 22 minutes. Just five minutes later the Dons were 2 - 1 down as two defensive errors allowed Staines to score. Rapson came closest to giving Wimbledon the equaliser when he hit the bar late in the half with a lob.

The second half was just as dramatic, as James Stenning punished some poor Staines defending, finishing with a strike into the top corner. Staines piled on the pressure and always looked dangerous from set plays where their delivery was excellent.
It was from a corner that the game was decided, as the ball was swung into the far post where Jack Turner caught the ball under the bar. Staines appealed to the referee who looked at the assistant, he did not signal anything until a second glance from the referee, then the assistant signalled for a goal.
The Dons threw everything at Staines and Timi Borges-Da-Silva had a fine chance, just missing the target before sub Ollie Killick agonisingly hit the post with five minutes remaining. There was still time for a Jordan Hutchinson free header, but he failed to find the target.
Sometimes these things are not meant to be, but over the season the players have been magnificent and to lose only four games in 31 is a fantastic achievement. As manager, I can't speak highly enough of all the players in the youth team squad. All have played a major part in a very good season and I personally thank them for that.
