Watford Ladies
Match report
Watford Ladies enhanced their promotion prospects with a comfortable 5-1 victory at Kingsmeadow.
Early on Lander was clean through only to shoot horribly wide but in the 16th minute Watford went ahead, Maggs finding Lander to lob the ball over Louise Cooper. Cooper then tipped a Maggs shot over the bar to keep the interval score at 1-0.
Alex Cottier's free kick struck the top of the Watford crossbar and Cooper denied Maggs before Watford went 2-0 ahead in the 57th minute, Thomas crossing for Lander to tap home. A minute later Beth Sims reduced the arrears, running on to a through ball to slide the ball past Morley. However, almost from the kickoff a Maggs through ball allowed Thomas to outpace the home defence and make the score 3-1. Lander then completed a hat-trick with an excellent individual goal in the 72nd minute, turning inside a defender and rifling home a fierce shot, then it was 5-1 in the 80th minute when Thomas nipped in between Cooper and a defender and scored with a well struck volley from the edge of the area.
