This game was a battle from the start and Croydon had the best of the first half, playing with the wind behind them and going down the slope. Wimbledon found it hard at times to get out of their own half and hardly threatened the Croydon goal. In the second half the roles were reversed and Wimbledon dominated but couldn?t find the goal.
Extra time started and the weather conditions deteriorated with the rain pouring down. Midway through the half Croydon took the lead from a breakaway move. But Wimbledon showed determination and kept pressuring for the equaliser. Their hard work paid dividends when in the last minute, from a corner, George Martin?s shot found the back of the net. The crowd went wild and you could see the Croydon heads drop.
This meant the tie went to penalties. Wimbledon scored all five of their penalties and Croydon scored three, with Jordan Knight saving their second penalty. Wimbledon will now meet Tooting & Mitcham in the final.
