Match report

The Dons had hoped to add the County Cup to their league title this season, but it wasn?t to be. Pitch conditions at Chipstead were awful and certainly proved a hindrance to the Dons style of passing football. Tooting were obviously fired up after last weeks mauling and fought hard for every 50/50 ball. The Dons had a couple of chances early on but the bounce of the ball got the better of them. A mistake by a Dons defender allowed Tooting in for their first shot at goal and they scored. Then another mistake left the Tooting player with only the keeper to beat, who got down low to the shot, only to see it bounce in front of him and fly into the roof of the net. Tooting then scored a well-worked goal when a cross from the right was headed home. Wimbledon had a shot on goal just before the break, which unfortunately found the side netting.

Wimbledon knew that if they were to get anything out of this game they needed a quick goal but regrettably it was Tooting who scored. The Dons battled away and spent much of the second half in the Tooting area but couldn?t find a way through. With 8 mins remaining the Dons grabbed a consolation goal when Eddie Mason got on the end of a Bradley Sexton free kick. It obviously wasn?t meant to be the Dons day and Tooting coped with the conditions better than Wimbledon.

Man of the Match ? Bradley Sexton
