Match report

AFC Wimbledon started well against Epsom Eagles and scored two very early goals with Terry Carlin finding the back of the net, followed by George Oakley lobbing the keeper to score his first goal for his new club. It seemed for a while that the Dons might be rampant like last week but their finishing let them down. Following a mistake in midfield Epsom Eagles mounted their first threatening attack and grabbed a goal. The Dons didn’t seem too worried and again had chances to put the game out of Epsom’s reach. Towards the end of the first half the Dons were awarded a corner kick and Bradley Sexton scored from a goalmouth scramble.

Changes in the second half saw Ebenezer Isiakpona score two goals to extend the Dons lead to 1-5. However Epsom Eagles were not finished and their tactic of playing the long ball game paid dividends when the scored two goals in two minutes with two good finishes. With the minutes ticking away Ebenezer broke free and buried the ball in the goal to claim his hat-trick.

Wimbledon made hard work of this game with sloppy defending and sloppy finishing. However it is often the sign of a good team when they win when not playing their best.
