Match report

AFC Wimbledon’s first home game of the season was played in unpleasant, wet conditions. The Dons started slowly and Meadow Sports went on the attack from the outset and forced a couple of good saves from Jordan Knight in the Dons goal. Gradually the Dons got a foothold on the game and on 25 minutes Terry Carlin struck the ball with the outside of his boot and it flew into the back of the net.

The second half began with the Dons increasingly taking charge and their ascendancy paid off on 45 minutes when Luc Vezzu scored his first goal of the season. This goal was quickly followed by a strike from Ebenezer Isiakpona. Tom Bingham then hit a perfect cross from the right for George Oakley to tap home. On the hour Callum Glavey set up Tom for his first goal of the game. Tom scored his second four minutes later when he hit a cross from the right and both George Oakley and Callum Glavey failed to get the final touch although it beat the Meadow Sports keeper also and found the back of the net. With two minutes remaining Meadow scored a consolation goal. A special mention must go to the whole defence today as they all played very well.
