This was the Dons first league game for a month. It was always going to be a fierce encounter between these two firm rivals.
Tooting claimed the early advantage when Jordan Knight’s clearance struck a Tooting player and ricocheted into the net after only 1 minute. The Dons didn’t let this set back upset them and were soon back on level terms when a cross by George Oakley, after good work down the right, found George Martin, who tucked the ball away. A minute later the Dons were in front when Terry Carlin fired home. The goal of the game was scored after 20 minutes when George Martin hit a free kick from inside the centre circle, which sailed over the Tooting keeper’s head. However less than a minute later Tooting scored again after a Wimbledon defender missing a header and a Tooting player got to the ball before the keeper, Jordan Knight. However the Dons increased their lead when Terry Carlin scored his second of the game. A frenetic half for goals came to an end after Tooting scored a good goal themselves, when their player’s shot hit the upright and bounced in.
Tooting equalised early in the second half and after that the game became a little scrappy. The Dons got sucked into playing Tooting’s style of football ie long balls punted up field rather than their own style of passing football. The Dons had the better chances to win the game but failed to hit the target. However, although the Dons have now lost their 100% record this season, they are still unbeaten and a point is definitely more beneficial to Wimbledon rather than Tooting.
