Sunday 21 December 2008 Surrey Youth League U13 Premier Elite
This fixture was switched to Barnes’ home ground, due to the fact that Barnes would be unable to field a team at the original kick off time offered.
Wimbledon were a little sluggish at first, probably owing to not having played a game for two weeks due to weather conditions. However this changed after 10 minutes when a great solo effort from Terry Carlin found the back of the net. The Dons were certainly on top and Tom Bingham had a fine shot headed off the line to deny him a goal. Again Terry was looking dangerous and it took an excellent save by the Barnes keeper to stop the Dons doubling their lead. Nevertheless the second goal was coming and Tom pulled the ball back to Bradley Sexton, who launched a rocket into the top left-hand corner of the goal. Goal 3 came from a corner and Reece Hannigan headed it home. Barnes’ consolation goal came from a well struck free-kick, which flew into the top right-hand corner of the goal.
The second half was a scrappy affair. Terry broke free again and although his attempt beat the keeper, it hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced out. A few dubious decisions went against the Dons but the players never let this affect them and went on to claim their seventh successive victory in the league this season.
