Sutton Utd play their home games on a very narrow pitch, which made the game look very congested. To compensate for this the Dons mixed their passing game with direct route one football. This paid dividends when Jordan Knight launched a long ball down field for Terry Carlin to control and shoot the Dons into an early lead. Soon after this, Bradley Sexton almost scored when his shot beat the keeper but was cleared off the line by a defender. However, the lead was increased when Terry Carlin showed his strength in weaving his way through the Sutton defence and unleashing a powerful shot into the goal. Terry completed his hat-trick in only 18 minutes after converting a free kick. Sutton then had their best move of the game and scored a good goal. Just before the break, George Oakley rounded a couple of defenders and then struck a lovely shot from a tight angle across the goal to nestle in the back of the net.
The second half was almost one way traffic in the Dons favour and it was only a fantastic display by the Sutton keeper, who pulled off a whole manner of saves from numerous Wimbledon players that kept the score down. Midway through the half George Martin scored from a bicycle kick and later almost did it again, but his shot went just over. Although if it had been full size goals instead of intermediate, it would have gone in. Sutton did produce one fine chance towards the end of the game but Jordan Knight pulled off an excellent save to deny the Sutton striker. Terry Carlin rounded off a great display when he bravely went in one on one with the keeper and slid the ball home for his fourth and the Dons sixth of the game.
