Match report
AFC Wimbledon put up a battling display at Plantation Park but were unable to stop Norwich City easing into the Second Round of the F A Women's Cup.
The home side dominated the first half with a Laura Topliss extremely long range shot the only Dons threat. At the other end Norwich created plenty of opportunities but poor shooting meant Lou Cooper only had two serious saves to make whilst Dannielle Davies cleared an inswinging corner off the line as the half ended goalless.
There was nearly a shock in the opening seconds of the second half as an excellent Davies cross from the right allowed Kerry Knott to loop a header over the keeper but onto the roof of the net. A dreadful backpass almost let Topliss through only for the keeper to make an excellent tackle, and within seconds Norwich were ahead, a clinical lob from the edge of the area giving Cooper no chance to make it 1-0 in the 53rd minute. Lisa Couchman made an excellent saving tackle and Charlotte Nash twice kicked Norwich efforts off the line before Cooper brilliantly turned a fierce shot round the post only to be awarded a goalkick. In the final 10 minutes the Dons were forced to push forward searching for an equaliser and Cooper made four excellent saves to keep the score down, whilst at the other end Topliss nearly grabbed an equaliser when she lobbed the keeper only for a defender to head the ball behind whilst almost on the goalline.
