This was Wimbledon’s first game for four weeks and the boys did look a little lethargic and out of sorts to begin with. The weather conditions didn’t help matters as although it was sunny there was a bitterly cold strong wind blowing.
Wimbledon were creating chances for themselves but the Molesey keeper was having a tremendous game and thwarting most of their efforts. However, midway through the first half Luc Vezzu found himself in the right place when a shot rebounded off the crossbar into his path for him to slot into the net. Moments later Luc doubled his tally with an outstanding goal when he hit a shot from distance that looked at first to be going wide and right but which bent into the top corner of the goal.
Both sides started the second half brightly and Terry Carlin connected with a Stuart Haughton cross to increase the lead further. Molesey then mounted a good attack of their own and finished well. The Don’s movement was first-rate and they were certainly putting Molesey under a lot of pressure. Tom Bingham’s excellent delivery from a corner on the right found Terry, who headed the ball home. Next Tom took a corner from the left and Molesey failed to clear and George Martin headed goal number 5.
Wimbledon now march on to the quarter finals of the Surrey County Cup and face a home tie against Epsom Eagles.
