Match report

1st Qualifying Round; Women's FA Cup

AFC Wimbledon Ladies 3 - 1 East Preston Ladies

This was always going to be a tense encounter, as both teams compete in the London & South East Counties Regional Women's Football League (LSERWFL) - Premier division.
The match started tentatively; and East Preston found themselves under increased pressure after having to use their only available Susbstitute after only 15 minutes as 12) Natalie Mepstead had to replace 11) Rebecca Simmonds, after the latter pulled up quickly following a hamstring injury.
The match cntinued with Wimbledon piling pressure on to the East Preston defence and things got worse for the visitors when Keeper Lauren Binfield got the final touch from a Louise Cooper corner to concede an Own Goal after 29 minutes.
In 35th Minute Wimbledon's American import; 3) Ashley Hall went for a 50/50 ball with Binfield and was Yellow Carded for an illegal challenge.
Wimbledon Keeper Leanne Knopp pulled down an East Preston Striker as she charged through on goal, and was also shown yellow in the 42nd minute. 57) Samantha Mee stepped up and scored from the Penalty spot.
Wimbledon now found themselves under the cosh and were lucky not to concede further before the break
1 - 1 Half Time
15) Emma Treanor replaced 11) Jodie Fernandes at the start of the second period as manager Tony Milstead shuffled his players in an attempt to curtail the chaos at the end of the first period.
3) Ashley Hall scored Wimbledon's second goal in the 56th minute after running onto a neatly placed through ball.
22) Serina Ly replaced 9) Chanel Richards after 60 minutes; as players were flagging under the heat of the unseasonal heatwave, and the fresh legs provided further attacking opportunities to the hosts.
Wimbledon continued to absorb the pressure forced on them by the visitors and to further refresh the team 10) Emily Pratley-Jones replaced 6) Nina Boorman with 10 inutes to go.
Then in the 87th minute a final embarassment was heaped onto East Preston's Keeper Lauren Binfield who misjudged a backpass and as the ball hit a divot and bounced over her foot Wimbledon 3) Ashley Hall pounced and rounded the keeper and slotted her 2nd of the match to secure the win.
There was still time for Wimbledon to almost hit the self destruct as they found themselves pegged back in their own half as East Preston tried to rally, but Wimbledon showed spirited defence and held out for the win.
