If ever a game deserved an "I Was There" t-shirt, this was it. Cancelled (hourly) trains, a two mile (uphill) walk to the ground, weather that didn't know whether to rain or shine and the last day of the Premiership season unfolding live on Sky. Add to that a distinct "end of season" billing and you gets what you pays for.

The Wombulance was there, with Carol, Simon, Terry and the fat one who's name I always forget, doing good business in videos and CD's, and there was a 1.2 version of Moleking's "Womble Underground Press" fanzine, this time with Trigger pertinently adorning the cover. Apart from that it was bravehearts and diehards only.

The old hospital social club, now the club bar, was doing great business - even Netherne secretary Dermot was spotted in there at one stage!

OK, Ok, you want the football. To be honest, there wasn't much to talk of. This was a friendly match in the real sense of the word. To sum it up nicely, the last substitution of the match was Everard for Graham. In goal!

In between, most of the AFC Wimbledon players played in the opposite of their normal position (Matt up front, Sids at left back, etc). The exceptions were the two Netherne players making their Dons debuts - Nicky English's son Bobby, slotting in, off and on again at right back and Dwayne Townsend, switching between the bench and the right midfield.

There was never going to be much sweat - Netherne had played at Bookham the day before and several of their players were rested prior to their imminent League Cup final (including ex Don Danny Roberts), although it was nice to see Trigger commanding the defence in the first half, and Dave Fry running the midfield in the second period. Dan Couch, Sim Johnston, Akin Gallimore, Dave Towse and Chris Theodore were other notable Dons turning out for the "reserves", and even Jo King made a welcome appearance in the pre match warm up!

The Dons worked hard to come back after a penalty, then a converted through-ball, put Netherne 2-0 up in the first half hour. The two ex-Netherne players in the Dons side combined to pull the first one back, Lee Sidwell rampaging down the line and slotting his cross for Danny Oakins to sweep home.

Immediately after the break And Sullivan equalised. The game spurted into life with a quarter of an hour to go, Gareth Graham threw himself at a cross to put the Dons in front, then Andy Trefry levelled for the Village. With Matt Everard in goal for the last couple of minutes, Village broke free down the right and Andy Trefry scored his second, and the winner.

Then it was back to the bar for end of season jollies.
