Terry Brown acknowledged that the Dons came off second best at Crawley last night but he is looking forward to making sure that his young team learn the lessons quickly and make a strong start in the Football League.

"Obviously it was a disappointing result last night and, to be honest, we could have no complaints about losing to a very proficient Crawley side. I thought they dominated most of the play and although we took the lead twice on the evening, we were never really comfortable.

"This is definitely a game where I am looking forward to getting the DVD and looking to see where we can improve as, on the night, Crawley pressed us, stopped us playing and as I said, dominated most of the possession.

"The positives for us were one or two good individual performances and the fact that we scored two very good goals with Luke Moores' in particular being the pick of all five.

"I won't be drawing too many drastic conclusions from this game as I do feel that this was a particularly difficult fixture played at a ridiculously early time of the season. It is my job now to lift the morale of the players on Monday and ensure that we have a positive four days' training.

"As for injuries, I don't think we picked up very much in the way of new ones but we'll wait and see who calls in."

"I am now looking forward to what will be one of the biggest days in AFC Wimbledon's history. We have four days' preparation to learn the lessons of last night and make sure we start our time in the Football League with a positive performance and result."

Every year we receive many requests from charities, asking to hold a collection on a matchday. We try to balance these requests with Trust and similar activities and so we have allocated four matches for charity collections this season. One of these has been allocated to local hospices, in line with the Football League's charity of the season. So three places are up for grabs.

This year we will ask fans to vote on a shortlist of charities to identify which ones should be invited to come. First, however, we need nominations. The rules for this are simple:

1 The nomination must come direct from the charity itself

2 It must give a contact name and details of the charity's purpose - a link to the relevant web site will be enough

3 The charity must be willing to commit to sending 12 - 15 volunteers on the selected matchday who should be in position by 12.30 pm

4 Nominations must be received by no later than 5.00 pm on Monday 8 August

5 Selected charities (i.e. the ones the fans vote for) must provide copy for both the programme and web site for the relevant match. Clearly, this need not be prepared until the vote is complete and the relevant charities are selected.

The club undertakes to provide access to our facilities and support to help to make the day as successful as possible.

Fans may bring this opportunity to the attention of a charity they support, but we will only accept nominations direct from the charity itself so that we know they are committed to the event.

Nominations should be emailed to charity fundraising.

The second coach for the Crawley game on Friday 29 July is filling up nicely but we still have 12 spaces available.

The cost is a flat rate £5 and the coaches will leave The Grove at 4.45 pm and Kingsmeadow at 5.15pm today.

AFC Wimbledon start the season with an away game at Crawley on Friday night, kick off 7.45 pm, in the club's first-ever appearance in the Carling Cup. As fans know, the game is an early start to the season because a preliminary round is needed to balance out Birmingham joining the competition later than other Championship teams, because they qualified for the Europa League.

Manager Terry Brown would have preferred a longer preparation period before this first game since promotion was won back in May, but he is still looking forward to getting back into competitive action.

"We finished our final training session this afternoon, prior to our first competitive game of the season. The players have now completed fifteen training sessions and depending on the individual player have completed between 250 and 350 minutes of game time. This is at least a game short of where we would normally hope to be prior to our first competitive game of the season.

"A combination of a late finish with reference to the play offs and a July 29 start has meant we have had to cram our normal six week pre-season into approximately a month. We go into the Crawley game with 18 of our squad of 22 players fit and available. We have Lee Minshull doubtful, James Mulley has still not recovered from a back injury sustained prior to pre-season, Mat Mitchel-King is back in training this week but probably three or four weeks away from a first team debut, while Fraser Franks is making exceptional progress with an expected return in early October.

"The players were told the team today and looked really sharp and enthusiastic for what will be an important opener on Friday night. I don't expect either ourselves or Crawley to be on absolute top form at this stage of the season. However, the importance of the game dictates that there will be plenty to play for. The Carling Cup offers us an opportunity to have seven substitutes on the bench on Friday.

"I hope you will be able to get along to watch the game as both sides will look to play good attacking football. Whatever the outcome of Friday's game it should be good preparation for both ourselves and Crawley to start the Football League season the following Saturday."

Both clubs have seen comings and goings in the summer, with Crawley recruiting seven players from higher leagues, while James Dance and Richard Brodie are the highest profile players to leave (the latter on loan to Fleetwood). Meanwhile, Terry Brown has gone for continuity, confirming his faith in his young team by retaining 15 of the promotion squad and commenting that this is the highest number he has ever retained.

Wimbledon have not lost in ten league and play off games since the 3-1 defeat at the Broadfield stadium last March and the team goes into the game feeling very confident and relaxed.

· 26 - 28 April: Walk Further for Wimbledon – a 50 mile sponsored walk from Kingsmeadow to Barnet, in aid of the Dons Trust and charities;

· Saturday 30 June: Following the success of this season’s reincarnation of this event, we will be holding a 6-a-side tournament;

· Date to be confirmed: once again, an AFC Wimbledon Peledon will be teaming up to raise money for a selected AFC Wimbledon project by cycling in Velo and Blue.

Further details of these events will be announced as the season progresses, but please make sure to put these dates in your diary.

In addition to these events, the Dons Trust continues to run its customary fundraising activities, including:

· The Dons Draw – our monthly lottery offering prizes totalling over £2,000 – see Dons Draw.

· Golden Goals – available at home games;

· Recycling – loose change, foreign exchange, printer cartridges, mobile phones; CDs, DVDs and computer games can be deposited with us at Saturday home matches;

· Occasional matchday raffles.

As ever, our fundraising effort goes towards repayment of the substantial borrowings that have been taken on to purchase and improve Kingsmeadow.

The Football League has agreed a record five year overseas broadcasting deal with global agency Pitch International for the worldwide distribution of matches from the beginning of the 2012/13 season.

The new agreement sees The Football League return to a single broadcast partner with Pitch International, currently The League’s partner in the Middle East, distributing rights for npower Football League and Carling Cup matches across the globe.

Currently, TV broadcasts of the npower Football League and Carling Cup are received in 96 different countries across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Kieron Kilbride, The Football League’s Director of Business Development, said: “The Football League is looking forward to extending its successful partnership with Pitch International onto a global level. Their expertise in the sports rights market and enthusiasm for our competitions impressed throughout a highly competitive sales process.”

Paul McGrath at Pitch International, said: “We are delighted to continue our long running and successful association with The Football League with the announcement of this new five year agreement. The design of the shop's site doesn't cater for this approach and the only way we could get the price correct for a shirt for collection was to reduce its nominal price to £35 and then, with the £5 for 'postage' being added automatically, the price charged is the correct £40.

Terry Brown always says that the most important aspect of pre-season games is not to injure anyone, so he will have been disappointed with the outcome of Saturday's game against Watford, as he explained to us earlier today.

"After Saturday's good display against a strong Watford side we resumed training today without Lee Minshull, who picked up a dead leg, Jamie Stuart, who suffered a heavy fall on his back, Gareth Gwillim who suffered a knock on his shoulder, and Charles Ademeno who is still suffering from a bruised heel. However, James Mulley resumed light training today and hopefully will move on to participate in full training this week.

"We had a really pleasing bonus in the early return of Mat Mitchel-King who participated in some light jogging under the guidance of Mike Rayner. Mat is not one who will try to rush back, owing to the severity of glandular fever, but from a layman's point of view I was really pleased in that I thought he looked quite well and no t like someone who has had a draining serious illness.

"Turning to our final pre-season match, we are looking to play several first teamers tomorrow in the game at Tooting with run outs for Jack Turner, Chris Bush, Ryan Jackson, Sammy Moore, Reece Jones, Brendan Kiernan and hopefully Charles Ademeno. We had hoped that Minshull would play but we won't rush him with an injury like that.

"This is our last game before our season starts, earlier than we would have liked, with a game at Crawley on Friday night. But it is the same for both teams and we go into it in excellent spirits."

The club is pleased to announce the return of the AFC Wimbledon Golf Day, taking place at Malden Golf Club on Wednesday 28 September.

The day will start off with bacon rolls served with tea or coffee followed by 18 holes of golf with a tee time of 10.30am onwards. The format will be a team score based on the best 3 of 4 Stapleford scores. There will also be a competition for the best individual score with prizes for first, second and third places, as well as prizes for longest drive and ‘nearest the pin’.

A buffet meal will be served in the clubhouse on completion of each team’s round and there will be a prize giving ceremony once everyone has completed their round.

Entry costs £350 for a team of 4 or £350 for a team of 3 to play with a celebrity. The celebrities will either be current Wimbledon players, coaching staff or former heroes. We are also giving non-golfers the opportunity to take part by being caddies for the day. No experience is necessary and the £30 caddy fee will be donated to the Dons Trust.

The Dons Trust board is very pleased to announce that David Charles has been appointed Operations Director of AFC Wimbledon. The appointment reflects the increasing responsibilities that David has taken on since his appointment as club secretary nearly four years ago. David will also continue as club and company secretary.

AFC Wimbledon Chief Executive Erik Samuelson said “The existing directors, Nigel Higgs, Ivor Heller and I, are delighted to welcome David to the football club board. He fully deserves his appointment to the board and we’re sure he will make a great success of the wider role this now entails.”

Football League clubs have extended their commitment to the next generation of young playing talent by increasing their financial investment in Youth Development and by raising the number of first team opportunities for players developed in the domestic system.

At an EGM at Leicester City's King Power Stadium, clubs approved the introduction of a new 1% levy on all transfer spending by Football League clubs. The money raised, which will be approximately £600,000 per season, will be invested in Youth Development programmes at clubs throughout The Football League.

Clubs also voted to increase the minimum number of 'home grown' players that must be named in matchday squads from 4 to 6. This increase becomes even more significant following the decision by clubs to reduce the number of substitutes that can be named from 7 to 5 players. Home grown players are defined as those that have been registered, domestically, for a minimum of three seasons prior to their 21st birthday.

The Football League's new Head of Youth Development, David Wetherall said: "Youth Development at Football League clubs is one of the games’ success stories, not only in terms of the number of players coming through, but also because our clubs are actually giving these players the chance to show their talent at first team level.

“Last season alone, 250 young players made their league debut and more than 900 players under the age of 21 appeared in first team football.

“These initiatives will further strengthen the outstanding work being done by Youth Development staff at clubs throughout The Football League and help even more young players make the step-up into first team football.”

Football League Youth Development is the world’s largest centrally co-ordinated young player development programme with more than 8,500 young players between the ages of 8 and 18 on the books of clubs.

The Dons take on Watford's first team in the second and final home pre-season friendly on Saturday, kick off 3.00 pm. Watford recently returned from a pre-season training camp in Biarritz and played a friendly at Wealdstone on Tuesday night, where new manager Sean Dyche saw his team ease to a 3-1 win.

Terry Brown said that he is putting out a strong team for the game as he puts the finishing touches to his own pre-season planning. "I took Christian Jolley and Brett johnson off early from last night's game at Bedfont as I want them for the Watford game. But Brett had been suffering from a calf strain and I needed to see that he was ready for 90 minutes.

"We are fairly light on injuries at the moment with only long-term injury Fraser Franks, plus James Mulley and Mat Mitchel-King unavailable. Saturday's team will be: Seb Brown; Sam Hatton, Gareth Gwillim, Jamie Stuart, Brett Johnson; Max Porter, Ricky Wellard, Rashid Yussuf; Luke Moore, Jack Midson and Christian Jolley. At this stage of pre-season it is important that we practise defending as well as attacking and with Watford having strengthened their side in the close season, I expect we will get as much practice at defending as we want.

"Watford are a good quality side and we will need to be at our best tomorrow, but I expect it will be a very attractive game from the fans' point of view and a very useful one from my perspective.

"Overall I am pretty pleased with pre-season because, despite the disruption caused by the Carling Cup preliminary round, we've achieved our aim of getting everyone sufficient game time and picking up as few injuries as possible.

"Turning to last night's game, I thought the whole evening was done very well and John would have been proud to see the new stand named after him. And he would probably have been happy with the result too, with a 1-1 draw.

"From my point of view, I thought we didn't move the ball around quickly enough but credit to Bedfont who played football throughout and made us work very hard. It was a good 90 minutes for several members of the first team squad.

"I watched the penalty shoot out with interest as we had two former players taking spot kicks against us. I think the entire contingent of Dons fans knew, from watching him many times, exactly where Kevin Cooper was going to put his kick. Sure enough he did and Jack Turner saved it. The curse of the former player escaped us for once and Reggie Savage was also unsuccessful - perhaps that was only fair after he put two past us at Heybridge, what feels like many years ago."

Football League clubs have voted to reduce the number of substitutes that can be named on the teamsheet for matches in the npower Football League from seven to five.

The vote was taken at an EGM at Leicester City's King Power Stadium.

A Football League spokesman said: "This was felt to be a sensible and prudent step given the financial challenges facing many football clubs and the commitment made earlier this summer to adopt UEFA's Financial Fair Play framework."

Clubs will still be permitted to name seven substitutes in the Carling Cup and FA Cup and five in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

The second of this week's midweek games will be played on Thursday night at Bedfont Town, in memory of John Morris, our former reserve team manager. Adding a little spice to the encounter will be the presence of former Dons star Kevin Cooper, who is now the Bedfont Town manager and who must be tempted to bring himself on for at least part of the game.

Before talking about John Morris and what he meant to the club, Terry dwelled briefly on last night's game at Beckenham Town.

"For those supporters who travelled over to Beckenham, the club looked after the players and management very well and we were able to turn out a strong side on what was one of the best playing surfaces you could possibly ask for at this time of the year.

"Credit to Beckenham who played football throughout and looked to pass the ball whenever they could, which led to an entertaining game. Fortunately for us, several first class strikes enabled our front runners to sharpen up their shooting. In particular, it was nice to see Jack Midson grab his first hat trick for the Dons and the highlight for me was his near post header from a fine cross by Brendan Kiernan.

"We were also able to give a run out to Zach Richards, Dawayne Campbell and Jake Rose who all acquitted themselves very well in what was a very enjoyable pre-season game without, very importantly, any injuries.

"Tomorrow sees us visit Bedfont Town in a memorial game for John Morris, our reserve team manager for many years. We are very pleased to announce that following a recent meeting with the Football League Trust the club has been given the go ahead to set up a Boys’ Centre of Excellence. This will cover age groups from under 9 to under 18 and is a significant step forward for our overall strategy.

Youth & Community Director Nigel Higgs said ‘This is the culmination of a lot of hard work by many people over many years. We have managed to keep progressing as the first team moved up the pyramid and put ourselves in a position where the Football League considers us ready to step up to the next level. Now it’s up to the coaches and the players to continue that development and achieve the club’s goal of producing players with the technical attributes to succeed in the higher reaches of the Football League.’

Chief Executive Erik Samuelson was thrilled by the news ‘Nigel Higgs and his team had this as their target when they first started the youth development programme some 8 years ago, so it is gratifying to see all their hard work come to fruition. It’s a great achievement.’ First team manager Terry Brown said ‘I am really pleased with the progress made by our youth section and this is another big step forward. I look forward to seeing our boys competing against the best of the Football League. I feel sure they will do the club proud.’

With the first competitive game only eleven days away, Terry Brown is keen to make sure the players have all had plenty of game time from the pre-season friendlies. But he is also looking for better performances than he saw on Saturday, as he explained to us earlier today.

"Saturday's game at Sutton proved to be tougher than we expected and a really good performance by a strong Sutton side was probably the challenge that we needed. Although several players suffered knocks and we still have one or two niggly injuries, only James Mulley of the injured players won't be starting tomorrow at Beckenham.

"I am looking forward to playing two games this week where all of our fit players will play 90 minutes. We will supplement both sides with some of Marcus's best young boys and we look forward to travelling to Beckenham and Bedfont.

"After a less than brilliant performance it is important to get back to the basics and work harder than we did on Saturday. This brings me on to the fact that nobody works harder in our squad in training or in games than Jamie Stuart and I am very pleased to announce that he is our new first team captain. Brett Johnson is our vice captain.

"I spoke to Marcus today and he was delighted not only to win in Guernsey but also with the very generous hospitality, which was first class. The whole weekend was a great experience for the team, not least playing in front of a good crowd of over 1,000 on what was, according to Marcus, an exhilarating game on a perfect pitch. By all accounts Guernsey will do very well in the Combined Counties League this season."

Whilst Terry was updating fans at the well attended Meet The Manager Evening last Thursday, the Dons Trust Board (DTB) met to discuss the plans for the new season for the Mens, Boys, Girls and Ladies football sections and to continue work on the completion of the Strategy and Organisation reviews.

CEO Erik Samuelson presented his monthly report which covered a wide range of issues including the latest on the search for a new stadium, current stadium upgrades and a briefing on the newly announced development squad. One key decision that will interest fans is that after due consideration we will be taking the opportunity to join the FLI website. Further reports were given by Youth and Community director Nigel Higgs (who shared some great news from the Football League which the club will be announcing very soon) and David Charles on our preparations for the new season.

Following these reports the proposed budget for the Ladies and Girls Section of the club was presented to the DTB by Dennis Lowndes. After a good discussion and a review of the proposals (including increasing the number of Girls teams and forming a new reserve side), the DTB voted in favour of approving the budget. Additionally it was agreed to have more frequent formal reporting from the section throughout the year.

The second half of the meeting concentrated on the Strategy and Organisation reviews, beginning with receiving detailed feedback from Erik and the other Directors on the work carried out to date by the DTB, assisted by volunteers Mike Richardson and David Hall. The Directors then left to allow the DTB to discuss the way ahead. Agreement was reached on the overall approach to be taken and on the implementation of a number of actions relating to the club's organisation. The DTB also committed to presenting the detailed results of the reviews to the members at the next DT SGM (which will be held in September).

The next formal Dons Trust Board meeting will take place on 11 August.

Tomorrow we return to Gander Green Lane for our first fixture with Sutton United since our 2 – 1 victory in a pre-season game in July 2008, and we caught up with Terry for his views on the game.

“Today we completed our ninth training session of the pre-season and now approach our third game in fine fettle. As you will all be aware, one of my priorities in pre-season is to ensure we collect the fewest injuries possible and we go into tomorrow’s game at Sutton with the vast majority of our squad. We will only be missing Mat Mitchel-King and Fraser Franks, as well as Jack Turner and Brendan Kiernan who will be representing our young side who are flying off to Guernsey to take part in what will no doubt be an extremely good game.

“Returning to our present squad and the players who have played to date, we have today parted company with both Szymon Sidorowicz and Baz Savage. In both cases the players have done exceptionally well. In Szymon’s case, he looks a natural full back rather than a midfield player and we already have two very talented contracted players in that position. Baz is a very talented forward who likes to show up and get the ball to feet. However, I am looking for a player to run in behind defences. I would like to wish both players the best of luck in finding the good clubs that they both deserve. I am now only really looking for another forward and we have earmarked two possible signings for the future.

“On Saturday we return to the venue of our first ever game and I hope we can reverse the scoreline on that day back in 2002. Paul Doswell has assembled a really good side who easily won the Ryman Premier Championship last season. As well as coming up against Paul, I am particularly looking forward to locking horns with Steve McKimm who is a personal friend of mine and who is tying the knot on Sunday with his beautiful fiancée Lisa. This game will also be an opportunity for us to acquaint ourselves again with Tom Davis, who will no doubt be as big a pest as ever in midfield, and Jay Conroy. Our fans will no doubt enjoy watching them again since their efforts when we won the Blue Square South.”

Marcus Gayle's development squad is to provide the opposition in Guernsey FC's first ever game on Saturday.

Early this summer the AFC Wimbledon board approved the creation of a development squad of talented young players to form a bridge between the academy players and the first team. First team manager Terry Brown said "we've progressed up the leagues so quickly that we felt we needed to review our approach to reserve football. Marcus has therefore been given the challenge of building a young squad with the target of developing players who can challenge for a place in the first team squad. He will be drawing on the best of the academy graduates and supplementing them with additional recruits."

The development squad will operate as the club's reserve team in the Suburban League Premier Division, as well as playing friendly games against similar squads at other league teams.

The reward for the new recruits is a trip to Guernsey FC, who are newly-formed and who have joined the Combined Counties League for season 2011-12. Club President Dickie Guy, Chief Executive Erik Samuelson and Vice President Mike Richardson are accompanying Marcus, assistant manager Jon Phillips and the squad to the game, which will be played on Saturday evening.

Although the final squad for the start of the season has not quite been finalised the early signs are looking good for our home grown players. Nathan Gordon, Charlie Girdler, Dawayne Campbell, Robert Appiah, Huw Johnson, Zachery Richards and Kevant Serbony all completed their second year in our Academy and have done enough in pre-season to be on the flight. They will be joined by three excellent prospects who have a year left at the Senior Academy, namely Jake Rose, Frankie Merrifield and Cherno Mendy.

First team squad members Reece Jones, Brendan Kiernan and Jack Turner are also travelling, the last two also being former youth team players.

We can confirm that we will be running Summer Holiday Football Courses for children ages 4-14 for the full 6 Weeks of the summer at Wimbledon Park. To be sure of getting a copy, you should arrive early as we will only have a preliminary delivery of 200 DVDs for sale. We expect that a second delivery will be available before the Watford game.

The club is pleased to announce the return of the AFC Wimbledon Golf Day, taking place at Malden Golf Club on Wednesday 28 September.

The day will start off with bacon rolls served with tea or coffee followed by 18 holes of golf with a tee time of 10.30am onwards. The format will be a team score based on the best 3 of 4 Stapleford scores. There will also be a competition for the best individual score with prizes for first, second and third places, as well as prizes for longest drive and ‘nearest the pin’.

A buffet meal will be served in the clubhouse on completion of each team’s round and there will be a prize giving ceremony once everyone has completed their round.

Entry costs £350 for a team of 4 or £350 for a team of 3 to play with a celebrity. The celebrities will either be current Wimbledon players, coaching staff or former heroes. We are also giving non-golfers the opportunity to take part by being caddies for the day. No experience is necessary and the £30 caddy fee will be donated to the Dons Trust.

The season started well with a home win and a good performance against a strong Fulham XI on Saturday and Terry Brown is looking forward to getting some of his injured players back tonight for their first outing of the season. But there was bad news about one of his new recruits as he explained when he spoke to us earlier this morning. But he started with the positives from Saturday's game.

“Saturday’s game against Fulham allowed us our first view of our new signings. The pairing of Jack Midson and Christian Jolley up front in the first half certainly caused Fulham a few problems, with quality crosses from Chris Bush and Ryan Jackson. We also saw a steady outing from Max Porter with one or two telling challenges adding some much-needed bite to our midfield.

“Although there were no goals in the first half, both sides carved out one or two opportunities and were thwarted by some excellent goalkeeping on the day. The second half saw the introduction of Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz who was certainly busy in the first twenty minutes and made several outstanding saves. Charles Ademeno showed us some of the pace, skill and power we can look forward to seeing this year and it was nice to see him get on the score sheet with the second goal, complementing the goal that Brett Johnson scored earlier from a corner.

“We then introduced youth team players Frankie Merryfield, Nathan Gordon and Dawayne Campbell who all contributed well to what was a fine win on the day. The game was played in a good spirit with both sides benefitting from their first ninety minutes of the season.

“Tonight’s game against Staines offers us the opportunity of a first run out for Gareth Gwillim, Sammy Moore and James Mulley added to the squad that played against Fulham. The only other absentees are Seb Brown, who has still not quite recovered from a hip injury sustained in training and I am sorry to say we have some bad news about Mat Mitchel-King, who has unfortunately developed glandular fever and will be resting at home for at least a couple of weeks. We are not going to rush him back and fortunately we have both Lee Minshull and Chris Bush who can slot in at centre half.

“Having said that, we will begin the game with a strong starting line up and look to make several substitutions after 60 minutes.

“I am absolutely delighted we have now signed 22 players, including the latest ones to sign, Gareth Gwillim, Sammy Moore, Rashid Yussuf and Lee Minshull, which now gives us the strongest and most talented side I have ever worked with. Also, you may be aware we had an offer accepted with Dover Athletic for their goal-scoring forward, Adam Birchall but we now hear that he has decided to go to Gillingham. We are disappointed with that but perfectly understand that, with a child on the way, one reason is that there is a major attraction of being able to stay near home.

“I would like to thank the board for pulling out all the stops as far as trying to gain the services of Adam Birchall. We have made him the biggest offer in our short history and it wasn’t for the want of trying that he has decided to go elsewhere. With this deal not going ahead we don’t plan to increase the squad any further - but if the right quality striker comes available we will go after him.”

After receiving a record breaking number of season ticket applications we are now entering the final stages of attempting to allocate supporters their preferred seat/terrace. We hope this task will be completed within the next seven days. Supporters who have been unsuccessful in getting their preferred choice will be contacted to discuss their options.

We aim to have season ticket books ready for collection at the pre-season friendly at home to Watford on 23 July, with any that are not collected being dispatched by second class post the following week. We will confirm the position on this website next week.

As from today, the club office's opening hours will change to reflect the extra business that has arisen following promotion to the Football League. The club will be open to visitors in person and telephone callers from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday, for an initial period of six weeks. The impact on the office will then be reviewed and a further announcement made on opening hours.

Friday's deadline is looming for bids for a pair of season tickets in the Paul Strank stand and a season ticket in the Tempest End. These tickets are being offered for auction by the Dons Trust, having been generously donated by holders of five-year season tickets who are currently living abroad.

The season tickets on offer are:

. A pair of seats in the main stand – block C, row F, seats 11 and 12;

. A season ticket in the Tempest End.

Please note that, as the holders of the five year season tickets may wish to return to the UK in the future, these tickets are being offered without any right of automatic renewal. The seats can be bid for singly or as a pair. The single bids will win if the total of the two highest bids for single tickets exceeds the price bid for the pair.

The close season has been shorter than ever this year, following the club's dramatic promotion to the Football League only seven weeks ago. The squad reported for training on 1 July and after initial fitness and general health checks, training resumed in earnest last Saturday. Now it is time for Terry Brown and the fans to have a look at how the squad is settling in, subject to a few players missing through minor knocks.

Terry is looking forward to playing Fulham again, as it will be a much stronger Fulham XI than the one that the Dons beat 2-1 win two seasons ago. We asked him about his plans for the game.

"After a rigorous first week's training the players are looking forward to their first pre-season game, a very attractive game against a strong Fulham XI. This will be your first opportunity to view four of our five newcomers, namely Chris Bush, Jack Midson, Charles Ademeno and Max Porter, all of whom will start Saturday's game.

"There is an illness doubt regarding Mat Mitchel-King who is suffering a bout of tonsilitis and we won't risk him unless he is fully recovered. Two of last year's injured players, Gareth Gwillim and Sammy Moore, have trained well this week but are not quite ready to start against Fulham.

"Seb Brown has a slight injury to his hip and this will therefore give us an opportunity to have a look at Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz, a goalkeeper with league experience who was on Aldershot's books last season. Mikhael and Jack Turner both will play 45 minutes. The only other injury doubt is James Mulley who injured himself whilst doing some early season weight training. And, of course, while Fraser Franks is recovering very well from his knee injury, he is not yet ready for full training, let alone a game.

"None of the injuries is long term and hopefully you should be able to see them back, firing on all cylinders, by next Saturday. But I don't want to take any risks so early in pre-season and transform a niggle into a more serious injury.

"Saturday will also give fans an opportunity to look at two outfield triallists. Up front we will be giving a run out to Baz Savage, who is a player with a lot of Football League experience. And, in midfield, Szymon Sidorowicz will have an opportunity to play after training with the first team for the last five days. Last season, Szymon was with Polonia Nowy Tomysl.

"The new players in particular have had to take on a lot of information this week with regard to the pattern and shape of play. I don't expect them to have grasped everything but we should still see a very entertaining pre-season game."

Regarding the matchday arrangements, the bars will open at noon, as usual, and burger bars will be open inside the ground form about 1.45pm when the gates will open. Building work continues as the club gets ready for the Football League. As a result the John Smith's stand will not be open for this game because preparations are underway for new barriers to be fitted along that terrace.

This Saturday we face a Fulham side at Kingsmeadow in our first pre-season match of the summer. This game is the first opportunity Dons fans have to see the new additions to the squad in match action.

Unallocated seating will apply for this match, and there will be no segregation in place on the terraces. Prices have been agreed as follows:

At Saturday's pre-season training session, Sam Hatton and Christian Jolley, two of the final five players to be retained by Terry Brown, signed new contracts.

The remaining three, Lee Minshull, Sammy Moore, and Rashid Yussuf, did not sign. For the Football League, and unlike in the Football Conference, the club has to submit a copy of each player's birth certificate with their contract. Due to a misunderstanding the certificates were not available on the day for these players.

Terry Brown said "there is nothing to be read into this, other than that there were some crossed wires. All three players are already committed to the club for next season and they will sign the new-style contracts later this week."

Following a successful medical, Danny Kedwell has completed his transfer to Gillingham FC. At the request of Gillingham, the fee will remain undisclosed.

We wish Danny well at Gillingham and thank him for his part in our successes over the last three seasons. He will be long remembered for what proved to be his final kick of a ball for the club, at the City of Manchester stadium on 21 May.

To complete our schedule of pre-season warm up games we will be playing Staines Town and Tooting and Mitcham United.

We return to Wheatsheaf Park for the first time since our play-off final win in 2008 when we play Staines Town on Tuesday 12 July, kick-off 7.30 pm.

On Tuesday 26 July we visit Imperial Fields to take on Tooting and Mitcham United for The Lanes Cup. Kick-off is at 7.45 pm
