AFC Wimbledon Former Senior Squad
Name: Simon Sweeney Date left club: 22/06/07 Former Clubs: Chesham United
Home kit Sponsors: Windlesham Don Away kit Sponsors: In memory of D Kay Away Sock Sponsors: Ash
Profile: Created a slice of AFC Wimbledon history following his arrival in November 2005, by becoming the first AFC Wimbledon player to be signed for a transfer fee when Dave Anderson finally negotiated a move from Chesham United after trailing the talented, ball-playing defender for many months. Sadly, a serious knee ligament injury sustained on an icy pitch at Chelmsford in only his second appearance in a Wimbledon shirt left Simon looking at the start of 2006/7 season to resume his fledgling Dons career, but once fit 'Sweens' returned to hold down the right back berth at the end of last season.Terry Brown quickly agreed terms to keep him at Kingsmeadow, but unfortunately (for AFC Wimbledon) a work promotion meant that Simon could not commit to playing football during 2007/8 and consequently his contract was cancelled by mutual agreement. The club however, will retain his playing registration should his circumstances change. Updated [23 June 2007]
