The Dons created a chance with their first attack when a superb pass from Duane Williams picked out Terry Carlin, but his shot was saved. However, it was Netherne who scored first after only 2 minutes when their striker hit a super shot. The Dons went straight on the attack and first managed to hit the post and then Tom Bingham lobbed the ball over. The game was level after 5 minutes when George Oakley got on the end of a Tom Bingham pass. George went close again when he tried to place a shot, rather than hit it with power. Another pinpoint pass by Duane found George in space but he put his attempt wide. The Dons took the lead when Bradley Sexton found the back of the net. Terry Carlin then got his name on the score sheet when he got on the end of an Ed Turnbull free kick. Tom Bingham got his name on the score sheet after a fine pass from Ed Turnbull. George Oakley got his second of the game when he collected the ball just inside the Netherne half and went on a powerful run and finished well. He claimed his hat-trick on the stroke of half time with the best goal of the game. He received the ball from Terry Carlin, controlled it on his chest, with his back to goal, swivelled and fired the ball home.
The first chance of the second half fell to George but he put his header wide. Terry then saw his attempt pushed away for a corner by the Netherne keeper. Nehemie Mole took the corner and Terry headed it back across the face of the goal for George to head home. Terry grabbed his brace when he connected with a Tom Bingham cross. Chris Vlietinck went on a penetrating run only to see his shot well saved by the keeper. Ed Turnbull scored the final goal of the game and opened his account for the Dons.
The teams face each other again on Sunday in the reverse fixture.
