Match report
AFC Wimbledon Ladies avenged their 12-0 defeat at Milton Road by winning the return 3-2 to earn their first points of the season at Kingsmeadow Athletics Stadium.
The Dons began positively with a corner not cleared and Laura Topliss shot blocked on the line, and duly went ahead in the 26th minute when a Topliss through ball found Evellyn Torres who drilled a low shot past Mhundury. In first half injury time Lisa Shorter's header found Sims who rounded the keeper but shot wide from an acute angle.
Two goals early in the second half gave Cambridge City a slightly undeserved lead with Piotrowska's high free kick dipping just under the bar in the 50th minute and three minutes later a corner was headed on for Holland to bundle the ball home at the near post. Shorter blocked a Piotrowska shot and Thompson's long shot hit the post and almost rebounded in off Jodie Fernandes before the Dons surprisingly equalised in the 76th minute, Shorter's through ball finding Topliss to score with a low shot. Thompson scored only to be ruled offside and a Cambridge corner wasn't cleared only for Holland to shoot over, but it was the Dons who went ahead in the 85th minute when Lekesha James put Sims through to score with a low shot. Fernandes saved from Lines and Shorter headed a James corner just wide before the visitors almost snatched a late equaliser when a long range punt was somehow pushed over the bar onto the roof of the net by Fernandes in injury time.
