Match report

After a nightmare start AFC Wimbledon Ladies earned themselves a Surrey Cup quarter-final tie away at Milford and Witley (in the same division as Meadow Sports) on 20 January.

The Dons made an appalling start and were lucky only to be 1-0 down after 5 minutes, a powerful 4th minute shot giving Charlotte Nash no chance. Two Beth Sims goals in the 7th minute gave the Dons a lead they never relinquished. Firstly a Laura Topliss through ball allowed Sims to break the offside trap to score, then straight from the restart Sims robbed a defender before scoring a solo effort. It was 3-1 in the 16th minute when a Topliss long shot bounced up off the frozen surface over the unfortunate keeper, who should have then done better than letting a powerful Lekesha James shot through her legs in the 18th minute. Meadow Sports pulled a goal back in the 24th minute, but Sims completed a hat trick in the 29th minute after Jodie Fernandes has played her in.

After the break Meadow Sports quickly tired allowing the Dons to dominate proceedings. Clare Speed made it 6-2 in the 64th minute with a low shot into the corner, then Sims turned provider in the 70th minute by setting up Topliss to score. Two minutes later James scored with a long range effort, but almost immediately Meadow Sports scored in a rare attack with a cool finish after rounding Nash. The visitors then hit the Dons crossbar but the Dons ended the match on top with various shots kicked round the post or saved.

Nash, Couchman A (Davies D 77), Ludlow, Couchman L, Malone, James, Fernandes (Roberts 65), Doyle, Sims (Torres 71), Topliss, Speed.
