Match report
The reserves moved into the second round of the Suburban League Cup after an easier victory than the scoreline suggests.
The Dons started well with Falana prominent and on ten minutes he released Luffman, whose near post shot was pushed out for a corner. In the 17th minute Falana's perseverance was rewarded when he crossed to Chesters whose header was cleared off the line. The follow up shot was instinctively stopped on the line by an Uxbridge defender with the help of his hands. A red card was produced and Falana crashed home the resulting penalty. Four minutes later the Dons added a second. Good passing in midfield found the ball with Trefry whose long shot took a slight deflection and ended up in the back of the net. Playing against ten men the Dons dominated possession and Falana, Chesters and Luffman all had chances to increase the lead. Uxbridge rarely threatened but missed a good chance when some sloppy defending left Merry to block a short range shot. However in the 42nd minute a clear strike from 25 yards gave Merry no chance. The Dons responded immediately and on the stroke of half time Falana won the ball in the air. His layoff found Luffman whose left footer flew into the net to give the Dons a 3-1 lead at the break.
The second half proved an anti-climax after the action of the first. Despite enjoying long spells of possession the Dons were unable to find the killer final ball as crosses either passed harmlessly wide or found the keeper. In the last minute after the Dons gave the ball away again, Merry made a crucial save denying Uxbridge the equaliser.
