SURREY UNIVERSITY 0 AFC WIMBLEDON LADIES RESERVES 7
A comfortable victory at the expense of Surrey University saw AFC Reserves progress through to the quarter final of the Surrey Cup at Guildford. What was more pleasing however was the quality of the performance after some disappointing displays.
The return to fitness of defenders Nicola Manolis and Toni Taylor to the backline to compliment Danielle Davies and Sarah Pearce gave AFC a very solid look but in truth they were rarely troubled by the University side. AFC started brightly, passing the ball around fluently, but could not break through the home defence which was impressively marshalled by their sweeper. It was top scorer Michelle Storrier who broke the deadlock after 32 minutes when she fired home and Rachael Woodland also pounced soon after to give AFC a 2-goal half time lead.
The second half saw the University?s resistance finally broken as both Storrier and Woodland went on to complete their hat-tricks with substitute Joanna Goodwin also finding the target to give them a convincing win.
An excellent all round performance with the versatile Woodland getting the player of the match award but AFC will have to go up a further gear if they are to beat tournament favourites Woking in the last eight.
