Sunday 14 September 2008 Surrey Youth League U13 Premier Elite
AFC Wimbledon’s opening game in defence of their title was against newly promoted Wandgas. Wimbledon’s team contained four new signings but already the team is gelling and working well together.
After a number of attacks the Dons took the lead when Callum Glavey sent a ball through for Terry Carlin to burst through using his strength and speed and fire past the Wandgas keeper. Three minutes later Terry doubled his and the Dons score. Wimbledon were then awarded a corner from the right hand side and Bradley Sexton rose up and headed home. The game time now has increased this season to 35 minutes each way and in the extra five minutes the Dons claimed two more goals. Firstly Tom Bingham got on the end of a George Martin cross, followed by Bradley Sexton heading his second goal of the game from a corner from the left this time.
As the second half got under way the Dons carried on from where they had left off in the first. Goal 6 came when birthday boy, Ryan Cleary converted a George Martin free kick. Shortly afterwards Luc Vezzu headed down a Wandgas goal kick into the path of Ebenezer Isiakpona to bag his first goal of the campaign. Four minutes later Ebenezer was on the scoresheet again. On the hour the Dons were awarded a penalty but unfortunately Jay Bradley was unable to convert the spot kick. In the last minute Terry Carlin broke free to complete his hat-trick on his debut.
An all round outstanding performance from the whole team who kept their shape and discipline throughout.
