Match report

Although this was the first “official” meeting between the two clubs, there is a bit of history as Netherne Falcons took the league place of AFC Wimbledon Colts and the majority of the players played for the Colts last season so they may have thought they had a point to prove. This was obvious from the start and Netherne were certainly fired up for the game. Netherne closed down quickly and for most of the first half the Dons were second best. On 26 minutes Netherne took the lead and probably deserved it. Wimbledon were almost level soon after when George Martin struck a free kick which clipped the crossbar.

Wimbledon came out all guns blazing for the second half and Luc Vezzu equalised virtually straight from the kick off. This galvanised the Dons into life and on 40 minutes they took the lead when Terry Carlin powered through and blasted the ball home. However Netherne were not quite finished and midway through the second half they equalised from a free kick. The Dons applied the pressure again and from a corner, a Netherne defender turned the ball into his own net. The Dons should have extended their lead further when Ebenezer Isiakpona took the ball around the keeper but somehow managed to drag his shot wide and miss an open goal. However, he redeemed himself when he put away the fourth on the hour.

This was possibly the Dons worst performance of the season so far, nevertheless they still managed to win and claim 3 points.
