Match report
The Reserves eased into the Third Round of the Surrey Premier Cup with a comfortable win against Kew Association.
The match, which had been postponed on several occasions because of the weather, was eventually played at Kingsmeadow, and was just the reserves second game in seven weeks. The rustiness showed when in the first minute a through ball from Kew's midfield split the home defence and Merry just got his fingers to the ball to push the shot round the post. The Dons slowly got their game together and after Hodge had shot narrowly wide, they took the lead after ten minutes. A long ball was held up by Bamfo and, as he and the defender tangled, the ball ran loose to Joe Hill who took the ball into the box before calmly steering it past the keeper.
Chances were coming quickly with Joe Hill and Bamfo coming close before the Dons went 2 - 0 up on 19 minutes. Although Hodge was fouled, the referee played a good advantage, which allowed Ward and Joe Hill to develop a move down the right. Skinner collected the ball out wide, cut in from the right and crashed the ball home from an acute angle off the underside of the bar.
By this stage the Dons were in total control, with good movement from the midfield and forwards alike and it was not surprising when a third was added. Rob Hill was released down the left and his cross reached Bamfo who fired home at the near post. Three minutes later Rob Hill added a fourth when he fired home after the Kew defenders had blocked three other shots in a goalmouth scramble.
The second half proved to be somewhat of an anticlimax after the controlled attacking football of the first half. Kew closed down space, kept a much tighter rein on the Dons' forwards and limited the number of chances. However the home team added one more half way through the half. Fernandes' 35 yard free kick was pushed wide for a corner. This was taken by Rob Hill and he fired it directly into the goal.
