Match report

The reserves recent good run came to an end when they lost to the only goal of the game against a Walton Casuals side who played well above their League standing.

The game got off to a good tempo with both teams moving the ball around well. The first chance of the game fell to the visitors. They took the lead when the ball found Ben Campbell on the right hand side of the penalty area, and his strike gave Merry no chance.

The Dons quickly responded and almost snatched an immediate equaliser but Earp's header from Towse's cross was off-target. The Dons continued to create chances but Walton's keeper Danny Wheeler, who was in outstanding form all night, made saves from Skinner, Rob Hill and Trefry. The best chance of the half fell to Earp who latched on to a long ball from Ward which eluded two defenders, but his finish lacked composure and his shot went high and wide.

Strong words from Wager and Heyne at half time and the introduction of Bamfo brought a much better footballing display from the Dons. Within minutes Bamfo had a shot saved and then when he was brought down a few minutes later, Towse's quick free kick was headed away for a corner. It continued to be one of those nights. Rob Hill's corner was controlled by Angel who smashed the ball into the net only for the effort to be disallowed for handball. Minutes later Towse's cross was met by Hill and his header crashed against the bar and rebounded back into play.

The Dons continued to create opportunities with Towse (twice), Skinner and Bamfo all coming close. Despite their efforts, the Dons were unable to get the reward their play deserved and in the dying minutes Merry was required to make one of his few saves of the evening when Angell's back pass fell short and let in Campbell, but Merry was quickly out to block.
