Match report

AFC Wimbledon went into their last away game of the season knowing that a win would retain the league title. It was not a forgone conclusion as Sheen had hit a run of form, winning their last three games.

However on a hard and bumpy pitch the Dons got the upper hand and were ahead after only 2 minutes when George Oakley scored. George nearly doubled his tally minutes later when he let loose a shot which hit the cross bar. Terry Carlin also came close but his shot was just over. Although the Dons were in control they needed a second goal to give them a cushion. Sheen mounted a few attacks of their own but they couldn’t find a way past Jordan Knight in the Dons’ goal.

The long awaited second goal came 7 minutes into the second half when a George Martin cross found Jamie Hills, who had time to take the ball down and control it before hitting a wonderful strike into the back of the net. This was quickly followed by a goal from Ebenezer Isiakpona who had out muscled a Sheen defender from a long run just inside the Sheen half and fired past the Sheen keeper. The fourth goal was probably the goal of the game. From a Wimbledon corner the ball was played out to George Martin on the edge of the box, whose cross was met with a perfect header from Callum Glavey.

AFC Wimbledon have now won the league for the fourth season in succession and still have one league game remaining.
