Sunday 07 December 2008 Surrey Youth League U13 Cup
Although cold today, it was sunny and the conditions were much improved over recent weeks. This was the first meeting between these sides this season and normally fixtures between them have been very close affairs.
The Dons definitely weren’t slow in starting today as George Martin scored with a stunning left foot volley after only 2 minutes. The Dons were having the lion’s share of possession and were constantly threatening the Tooting goal. A pass from Terry Carlin found George Martin who scored with his right this time. The next Dons attack was a reversal of the last, with George turning provider for Terry to smash the ball past the advancing keeper. Minutes before half time, Bradley Sexton won the ball in midfield and his pass found George Oakley, who slid the ball past the Tooting keeper to score against his old side.
In the second half, the Dons extended their lead to 5 when Tom Bingham found the back of the net. Tooting then grabbed a consolation goal after a well-worked move. George Martin should have scored his hat-trick but his shot hit both posts before the keeper managed to pounce on the loose ball.
This victory was thoroughly deserved by the Dons and shows how much the Dons have improved since last season. The Dons now face Aldershot Town Reds in the semi final.
