Match report

This league cup semi final was played on the outside pitches at Imber Court. Wimbledon had the better of the early exchanges and it took an excellent save by the Aldershot keeper to deny a George Martin header after only 5 minutes. The Dons were certainly creating chances but these were either just over, just wide, or saved by the keeper. But the break-through came midway through the first half when Terry Carlin advanced on goal but rather than shoot he squared the ball to George Martin who put the ball into an empty net.

The second half continued in the same vein and after only 3 minutes the Dons had doubled their lead. From a Wimbledon corner which was only half cleared, the ball found its way to Bradley Sexton who found Tom Bingham in space and his cross was converted by Callum Glavey at the far post. The Dons completed their scoring when Jordan Knight’s long ball found Tom Bingham just inside the Aldershot half by the touch line, Tom took one touch to control the ball, and noticed the keeper was off his line and coolly lobbed him.

Aldershot were well organised and never gave up and despite their efforts, some solid defensive performances by the Dons denied them any scoring opportunities.

The Dons now face Farncombe Youth Trojans in the final at a date and venue to be confirmed.
