Sunday 08 March 2009 Surrey Youth League U14 Premier Elite
This was a clash between two teams from the top half of the table who have both played very well throughout the season. It was a game to watch with anticipation and excitement as both teams were aiming for a win.
1st half: AFC started the game and within 3 minutes, George sprinted and managed to score. The 2nd goal came at the 12 minutes when Bobby got at the end of the George’s free kick from outside the box. Strong wind made ball control rather difficult especially on long shots. However, Rhys got at the end of one of these long crosses and managed to put it put it away at the top left corner with style. So, by the end of the first half, AFC was 3-0 up.
2nd half: AFC made several changes throughout the 2nd half and kept defending against a much more dynamic and aggressive play. On a counter attack (40 mins.), George bypassed the keeper by a well taken volley and scored again. Charlie had two shots at the goal hitting the cross bar and the side bar respectively. The opposition kept on the pressure by winning corners and trying to open the goal but each time, AFC managed to fend off the attack. However, one minute before the end when everybody was scrambling in front of the goal, a shot was deflected from Luke’s foot and resulted in a goal for the opposition.
Overall, both teams displayed good discipline, vigour and toughness throughout the game. AFC played very well and was in control in all departments and deserved to win.
