Sunday 19 April 2009 Surrey Youth League U14 Premier Elite
AFC was up for this game and within the first minute, Rhys’s header passed the keeper & he scored. From then on, ball was mainly played in the opposition half as AFC was pushing forward. The fast tempo resulted in many opportunities to score including Charlie’s free kick, Tommy’s shot that went wide and JamesS’ wide shot at an open goal. By half time score stood at 1-0 to AFC.
Again, in the 2nd half and within a minute, Tommy passed the ball to Michael who volleyed the ball and scored. The opposition started to create a few openings in the 2nd half but the AFC defence managed to repel the attacks and stayed in control as well as managing a few direct shots and corners that either saved by the keeper or crossed over the bar. 5 minutes to go, Alex’s long throw followed by Charlie’s header and Rhys’s gentle touch put the ball in the net.
Just before the end, Bobby tried to header off a direct shot by the opposition but the ball hit the crossbar, bounced down, touched the line and the referee awarded the goal.
Overall, AFC created much more chances to score as well as controlling the ball in the mid-field. In turn, the opposition played better in the 2nd half by pushing forward but AFC defence managed to repel these advances.
