Thursday 26 February 2009 Surrey Youth Floodlit mid-week Cup
A solitary Pete Rapson goal was enough to send AFC through to the semi-final of the Midweek Surrey Cup where they will now play Horley for the right to play Woking in the final.
Chertsey were a decent side who are third in the Southern Youth League having won seven of their nine games. The line up was the same except for Gary Tyson who was injured last week, Tom Tollady came in and played on right side of midfield in his place.
The AFC defence and keeper were again outstanding throughout this game as Chertsey failed to have a shot on target in the 90 minutes.
AFC made a dominant start but fussy refereeing was stopping the flow of the game leaving both sides struggling to find any rythm. Billy Manning had three or four efforts from the edge of the box but failed to test the keeper. An Ollie killick cross gave James Stenning a chance at the back post but from a tight angle he missed the target. An injury to Jake Hill meant a re-shuffle as Jamie Evans came on at left back and Callum Wellburn switched to centre half. The only goal came from the best move of the game as an excellent Callum Wellburn diagonal ball found James Stenning in space on the left, his fine cross was turned in first time by Pete Rapson to give AFC the lead on 38 minutes.

The second half was again dominated by AFC and although Chertsey did not test Jack Turner in goal the one goal advantage was never comfortable. Tom Tollady hit a post and Charlie Clark-Gleave the bar as AFC had further chances. The Chertsey keeper then made a fine save from a Billy Manning drive. Josh Ayres replaced Harry Knock who was replaced due to a thigh strain and with 15 minutes to go the tiring Pete Rapson was rested and Timi Borges-Da-Silva came on as AFC saw out the remaining time without too much trouble.
This was another decent performance as the games now come thick and fast to the end of the season.
