Monday 23 March 2009 Ryman Youth League, North East Division
The young Dons were finally beaten in a Ryman Youth League game for the first time this season. Without influential skipper Jack Stafford and with Charlie Clark-Gleave unavailable AFC were forced to change their back line as Josh Ayres came in at right back and Jamie Evans at left back.
On a superb playing surface it was AFC who settled down the better in the early stages. Chances were few and far between but it was AFC who took the lead when a long kick from keeper Jack Turner was allowed to bounce in the opposite penalty area and a mix up between the home custodian and centre half gave Ollie Killick the simple task of tapping the ball into an empty net after 33 minutes. Woking came back and equalised from a wide free kick that was poorly defended and a Woking forward latched onto the loose ball to finish from close range. Five minutes later and Woking had taken the lead, another harshly given free kick led to a Woking player stealing in at the near post to score. Billy manning made the half time score 2 - 2 when he half volleyed an innocuos ball forward that the keeper misjudged and bounced over his head and into the net. Woking looked to play the long ball throughout the game and in the first half AFC fell into the trap of not getting the ball down and passing.

The second half was dominated by the Wimbledon boys as they started to get their passing game together. Chances fell to Callum Wellburn and Ollie Killick but the ball would not go in. Jamie Evans at left back had a fine game after an injury lay off and Jake Hill was impressive again. Timi Borges-Da-Silva came on up front as Rapson went right hand side replacing the tiring Gary Tyson. Borges-Da Silva looked very lively up front and caused the home defence a few problems with his positive running. Woking were hanging on as AFC looked to win the game but the unthinkable happened as from a AFC corner Woking broke away in the last minute to score the decisive goal. AFC hearts were broken but they carry a strong spirit and despite this loss will now look forward to playing Woking in the Surrey Cup final in two weeks time.
