Tuesday 28 April 2009 Surrey Youth League U14 Premier Elite
1st half: The game started with fast tempo as both teams were eager to push the ball forward & the midfield was the battle ground. AFC had more than 5 opportunities from corners and throws. At the 18th minute, Kieron’s shot hit the cross bar as AFC continued to exert pressure. A scramble in front of the opposition goal enabled James Stroud to toss the ball in the goal (33rd minute). A minute later, Shervin‘s tackle against 2 players caused a knock to his knee so he came off.
2nd half: A few minutes in the 2nd half, George passed the ball to Anthony who dribbled and passed it to Michael who had a direct shot at the goal from outside the box & scored. By now, AFC was 2-0 up but the team was pushing forward and keeping up the pressure. At 64th minute, Charlie had a chance to hit an excellent long shot touching keeper’s fingers & hitting the back of the net.
Just before the end, the opposition’s counter attack caused a scramble in front of AFC goal where the striker rolled the ball in, passing Jack and ending up in the goal. This was the only serious threat throughout the game.
This was a well deserved win for AFC, who are now the league champions as well as the league cup champions.
