Two James Cottee headers saw AFC Wimbledon progress into the next round of the FA Youth cup where they will now play away to Hayes & Yeading.
This was always going to be a tough encounter and so it proved, with Kentish Town being a good side with some good individuals.
AFC Wimbledon started a little nervously as their opponents came out of the traps fast and settled the better. Kentish Town looked lively in the early stages as the Dons took time to get their passing game together.
Kentish Town deservedly went ahead when a poor back pass was seized upon and a penalty was awarded as their forward broke into the box and was pushed. The resultant penalty being scored. This seemed to perk up the AFC Wimbledon boys and they started to come more into the game, the equaliser wasn't long coming as Matt Harmsworth won a header in midfield which led to good interplay between Josh Ayres and Joe Jackson, Josh Ayres then provided a cross that James Cottee got on the end of to finish well from five yards out.
Both sides had half chances to take the lead, a great tackle by Jamie Warren in the penalty box stopping a Kentish Town forward from getting away whilst at the other end Joe Jackson went round the keeper but the angle was too accute to score from.

AFC Wimbledon came out a more determined side in the second half and had plenty of chances as Kentish Town tired. On 55 minutes AFC Wimbledon scored the decisive goal as a mazy run and cross from Luke Gambin was superbly headed past the keeper by James Cottee to claim his second of the game and fourth in two games. Josh Ayres was replaced by Jordan Hutchinson to give add fresh impetus on the right hand side. James Cottee had a couple of chances the second from a cross which was headed back by Danny Carter for Cottee, but the keeper made a fine save.
Joe Jackson looked to have wrapped up the game when his header appeared to go over the line and be pushed out by an outstretched defenders arm, but the referee gave nothing. The tiring Matt Harmsworth was replaced by Rhys Turner and Charlie Hamsher replaced Joe Jackson. Kentish Town pushed on till the end and had a couple of good efforts that were off target but in the end it was the Dons who progressed through.
