An entertaining game last night saw AFC Wimbledon and Ashford play out a 0 - 0 draw. Ashford who sit in second place and can still win the league although after this draw it now looks unlikely. Both teams went out to attack and this set the tone for an exciting game.
Ashford were in the acendency early on and looked the side more likely to break through in the first half. AFC Wimbledon gradually came more into the game but it was Ashford who had the main chances of the first half but the impressive Dadar in the AFC goal had another fine game keeping the Ashford efforts out. An injury to Jake Hill saw him replaced by Dean Mcqueen at half time.
Again both sides attacked with pace and passion in the second half as both goals lived a charmed life. AFC Wimbledon had the better of the second half although Ashford did hit the woodwork twice. Ryan Thomas saw his fine header come back of the bar with Spencer unable to score from the rebound. Jackson went through and only good sweeping from the Ashford keeper kept the scores level. Meshach Smith a sub for Joe Jackson had two great chances to win the game, firstly he went through but hit the keepers legs with his effort and five minutes later Thomas made a fine run down the right cutting the ball back for Smith whose first touch five yards out let him down and the chance was gone. Then with a minute left on the clock Ashford failed to defend a cross and a header at goal saw an Ashford defender handle on the line before Thomas headed the ball into the net, but the Referee failed to play the advantage and sent off the defender awarding a penalty to AFC. Dan Carter stepped confidently up but failed to find the target with his kick to leave the game goaless. A draw was probably about right on the night as neither team deserved to lose.
There was some great individual performances on the night but it would be wrong to pick them out as this was an excellent team performance considering AFC were missing Dunne, Knock, Wellburn, Warren, Hutchinson, Gondwe and Bakhit. Well done boys!
