AFC Wimbledon bowed out of the Ryman Youth Cup after a spirited display against Sutton United. AFC Wimbledon took the lead when a long Callum Wellburn throw found Joe Jackson his excellent touch saw Wilson Gondwe sweetly finish into the bottom corner. An injury to Jordan Hutchinson saw him replaced by Sami Bakhit midway through the half. AFC had a great chance to go two up as some neat football saw Joe Jackson released with a through ball but his lob hit the wrong side of the post. Sutton also had chances but Sujit Dadar was in impressive form making a couple of vital saves.
The second half was again even with both teams having their chances, AFC Wimbledon were more guilty of not taking these chances and were punished by a fine finish from Chris Sessesgnon. More woe came AFC's way as Jamie Warren was carried off with a broken leg being replaced by Dean McQueen whilst Callum Wellburn suffered a hip injury forcing him off and Ethan Pinnock to replace him. Both teams had chances to win the tie but the game went to extra time. The winning goal was scored by Sutton in the first period of extra time as a poor clearance fell to Halili whose shot hit a defender before bobbling onto past the keeper into the net. A bitter pill to swallow but AFC fought all the way and had two great chances to equalise but it wasn't our night and this was summed up by a Jake Hill header that was cleared off the line right at the end. Credit to the boys for their attitude and commitment and our thoughts are with Jamie Warren who we hope has a very quick recovery.
