Match report
AFC Wimbledon Ladies 1 Arsenal Ladies 11
The AFC Wimbledon ladies started the season with the hardest of all tasks, a friendly against last season's double winners on the hottest day of the year.
The Dons were missing several key players due to holidays and gave debuts to eight new players, but were unable to stop the Arsenal goal machine from notching up eleven scores.
Caught cold from the start, two goals in the first five minutes sealed the result before the game had begun, but then followed an encouraging half hour spell before Arsenal hit the net again. Another goal left the ladies trailing 0-4 at the break.
Arsenal scored seven times in a devastating twenty-three minute spell at the start of the second period, and only a fine display from Lou Couper kept the score down. With five minutes remaining, a rare attack from the home side produced a corner and an Arsenal defender handled the ball. Laura Smith made no mistake from the spot.
