Match report
Two early goals proved decisive as AFC Wimbledon Ladies slipped to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Cardiff Athletics Stadium.
In an even first half Cardiff City went in front in the 7th minute when Cooper's corner was missed by the covering defender and although Keisha Ramos kicked the ball clear it was ruled over the line. The home side went further ahead in the 20th minute with a superb dipping volley by Morgan, and the Dons almost pulled one back immediately when Ramos played in Beth Sims for a shot parried by the keeper to Andy McGrady, who could only stab the ball back to the keeper. The Dons almost conceded a third with a lob over Louise Cooper that hit the post.
After the interval Cardiff twice went close on the break but the Dons were generally on top with Michelle Riley volleying just over, Sims shooting over when clean through and a Lizzie Laws dipping volley just over. The Dons camped in the Cardiff half for the last 30 minutes but couldn't find a goal, Ramos seeing a volley tipped over the bar, Maria Bertelli playing in Danielle Rebelo who was bravely denied by the keeper and Bertelli's free header from a Laws corner just wide to complete a frustrating day after long delays getting to the ground because of the Carling Cup Final a mile down the road.
