PORTSMOUTH LADIES 1 AFC WIMBLEDON LADIES 0
AFC Wimbledon Ladies paid the price for not converting their pressure into goals as a late Portsmouth goal completely against the run of play saw them go down 1-0 at Fareham.
The Dons had the edge in the first half, Gemma Hunt setting up Beth Sims for a shot saved and Sims brilliantly tackled when about to score, and the Dons were awarded a penalty in the 30th minute when Gemma Hunt was brought down by two defenders, only for Maria Bertelli's well struck shot to be brilliantly parried by Pryer. Stacey Niven then shot wide, then Gemma Hunt's cutback was diverted by a defender to Sims, who shot into the side netting. Carly Hunt headed a Lizzie Laws corner inches over, then Lou Cooper did well to deny Hillier and a Stacey Niven lob was just over.
The Dons spent most of the second period camped in the Portsmouth half but found chances hard to create, Sims having a shot blocked and Keisha Ramos seeing a corner handled only for the referee to judge ball to hand. Portsmouth then scored in a rare breakaway in the 78th minute with Wilson lobbing Cooper, and almost added a second when a long ball over the top put McGee clear only for Cooper to catch her attempted lob. The Dons laid siege to the home goal, Danielle Rebelo had a shot saved, Gemma Hunt's free kick was headed behind and Maria Bertelli's free kick was brilliantly headed off the line by McMillan with Pryer beaten.
