CEFI 1 AFC WIMBLEDON LADIES RESERVES 6
This was a useful pre-season workout for reserves, against Greater London side CEFI at Herne Hill Stadium.
AFC were quickly out of the blocks and Chrissie Alamu soon made her presence felt with a blistering cross shot into the far corner of the net from the right hand side of the penalty area after 5 minutes. AFC were jolted out of their complacency soon after when a long clearance from the home keeper saw the CEFI centre-forward react well to the bouncing ball to head over the advancing Danielle Whelan to level the scores.
It took a while for AFC to regain their composure, but they re-took the lead when a neat one two with Alamo saw Jen Castillo slip the ball home. A feature of the game was the pin-point accuracy of Roxanne Camp's corners and on the half hour mark Lyn Brown's powerful downward header was handled on the line, Rachel Woodland confidently blasting the resultant spot kick home. The match was over as a contest just before the break when Castillo scored her second with a fine shot from the edge of the area.
The second half became a disjointed affair with the home side suffering some injuries and losing their discipline. The introduction at half time of Andi McGrady and Victoria White added composure and strong running respectively to the visitors and further goals followed from Camp, with a fine shot on the turn, and Fiona O'Shea after a length of the field run and unstoppable shot into the top corner. There were several good performances - in midfield Katie Brennan, captain for the day, was neat and tidy, Sasha Denny looked lively on the left and Rose Maskell won her battle in the middle of the pitch. At the back Danni Davies was as reliable as ever and when called upon keeper Charlotte Nash showed her bravery. Star player however was Chrissie Alamu who caused problems whenever she ran at the CEFI defence.
