Match report
AFC Wimbledon totaly dominated this Suburban League fixture played on a warm, sunny afternoon in Fleet. Having missed a hatful of chances in the first half, the Dons went in just one up at half-time. Ben Chesters curled a free-kick home on 24 minutes, but otherwise the Dons were foiled by the visiting keeper and the woodwork, as Ally Russell hit the bar and Rob Hill hit the post. At the other end, Tony Smith produced a fine double save. The sending-off of the home captain for a tackle from behind on the half-hour mark for a tackle from behind gave Wimbledon a numerical advantage which they pressed home in the second period. Playing uphill they produced some fluent passing football and fully deserved their emphatic victory margin.
Ben Chesters completed a hat-trick and an Ally Russell penalty made the score 4-0 after 70 minutes. In the last fifteen minutes the Dons took advantage of some tired and dispirited home defending to add six more as the continual pressure finally told. Both Russell and Chesters notched four, with one apiece for Luffman and Wilson.
The team carried forward the previous week's good form and again won the midfield battle early on with tight marking and some biting tackles.
Despite having to reshuffle the back line following Ward's early departure, the defence played as a unit and limited the opposition to only a couple of chances, Dave Towse marshaling the defence well at centre-back.
The management team were pleased with the creativity shown by Stuart Wilson as a second-half substitute and the disciplined performance of the whole side.
