Match report

THE FIRST GAME WAS obviously a tricky one for us - several of the players were disappointed not to be with the first team - but I have to say that the attitude of all of them was absolutely first class. People were upset and disappointed but noone threw the towel in, everyone was ready for the game and up for proving a point. We had an extremely good side out and won 5-2 comfortably, I'd have to say.

We scored early on, but with their next attack they got a penalty and scored. But we picked ourselves up again and scored three more before half-time. That gave us a 4-1 lead at the break.

Quinny came off with a knock and Roger got 45 minutes as he looks to get his fitness back. He worked extremely well with young Lewis Taylor, talking to him and helping bring him on. Lewis is only 17 but he looks ever so composed. We scored one more in the second half and they got a second penalty, which was a terrible decision. But conceding no goals from open play was very pleasing. The result was good and so was the attitude of the players. Michael Rootes came on for half an hour as well, replacing Mark Nicholas. To have players of his calibre and Roger Joseph's on the bench is quite incredible. Frankum and Matt Hodge worked well in the centre of midfield and Ben Chesters did a good job on the left even though it's not his favourite position. He came inside towards the end and young Rob Hill got a run-out. I thought Andrew Trefry on the right had the best game I've seen him have yet. Upfront Leon and Ally worked extremely hard and I was very happy for them. Russell won his headers all day and Leon took his goals extremely well.

All in all, it was an excellent start. We have a good squad here and I'm confident for the season ahead.

When the first-team aren't playing, I hope to see some of the fans come down and support the boys. That helps to make them realize they're every bit as much part of the squad. And there are some great players for you to
watch as well!
