Sunday 25 September 2005 West Surrey Youth League U14 Cup
AFC were quick out of the blocks in this game, totally dominating the first 10 minutes were they raced into a 2 goal lead. The first came courtesy of Gareth Witter when he latched onto a loose ball from a Harry West corner and fired it home after 2 minutes.
AFC doubled there lead in the 10th minute when Gareth raced onto a through ball to leave the Staines defence standing, and coolly slotted it past the advancing keeper.
After going 2-0 up so quickly an avalanche of goals was expected, however this failed to materialise as AFC then took their foot off the gas, as if satisfied that the two goals would be enough.
The scoreline remained the same until 8 minutes into the second half when AFC gave away a penalty for ?deliberate? handball, which Staines promptly scored from to make it 2-1. The quality of the game deteriorated somewhat after that, and AFC were made to wait until the 62nd minute before they made the game safe. Terry Dale launched a precision hoof into the Staines box, and as Gareth Witter challenged their goalkeeper for the ball, it broke to Daniel Kyprianou who bundled it into the back of the net for his 3rd goal in three games.
The win sets up an interesting tie against Mytchett in the next round, where we will be looking to avenge or Surrey Cup defeat from last year, and progress into the next round.
