Sunday 30 April 2006 Surrey Primary League U10 Division One
AFC Wimbledon finally clinched the title after beating their closest rivals in an enthralling game on Sunday. The game was played in a fantastic spirit considering what was at stake and the boys treated the fans of both sides to an exciting attacking game. Straight from the kick off The Dons attacked with Charlie Bulmer and George Irwin firing in early efforts. Potley then countered and had a few attacks of their own that Reece Brewster and George Irwin dealt with at the back. At half time the score was 0-0 and there was everything to play for. The second half was the same with both sides producing some great football and a few half chances at both ends were squandered. As the game looked like ending in a draw, AFC Wimbledon attacked once more and a shot from Irwin was deflected in the area to leading scorer Charlie Bulmer who certainly was the right man in the right place at the right time, Bulmer smashed the ball into the net with only 3 minutes to go and the boys remained solid before wild celebrations at the final whistle confirmed the boys championship victory.
