Match report

West Byfleet Scorpions v AFC Wimbledon Colts

AFC Wimbledon Colts travelled the short distance down the A3 to Byfleet to play West Byfleet Scorpions in the Division 1 clash. The game started in the normal Colt's fashion with the boys taking their time to wake up and getting up to their normal pace of the game.

After about 10 minutes the Colts started to put some good passes together through the midfield with Josh, Jamie and Thomas all linking up well together. Charlie up front was looking menacing and came close a couple of times in the first 10 minutes.

The Colt?s defenders Peter and Daniel worked tirelessly together and defended the long balls, which seemed to be the tactic of the day of the opposition. Conor was on hand to clear up anything that got through.

Just before half time the pressure told on West Byfleet and Charlie nipped through the defence and scored his fourth goal in two games from a midfield passing passage of play.

In the second half West Byfleet came out fighting and started to put some pressure on our back two, who coped very well by repelling the attacks.

It was not long before Josh scored our second goal with a powerful drive to the right of the keeper. The goal seemed to lift West Byfleet and they started to put more pressure on our defence and were rewarded with an own goal through a rare mix up.

The game started to become a little bit scrappy but the Colts still looking the better side scored their third when Jamie and Lewis pounced on the opposition defender who was in possession of the ball, who panicked and with a mix up with his keeper scored an unfortunate own goal.

A good 3-1 result that lifts the Colts to the top of Division 1 for the first time this season.

Conor Walsh was voted Man of the Match for the second week running with another great Goalkeeping display.
