SURREY COUNTY CUP SEMI FINAL:
Wow what a thriller this one was. the game was played in a great spirit, refereed well, good footballing conditions, good pitch, and two finely balanced teams.
The game ebbed and flowed, good bits of football here and there, but the pressure was on, and neither side really settled. Will Marlow hit the bar, with a close range effort for the Dons, Troy Murray went very close for the Youth, but Lewis West put in a fine tackle for the ball to just go past the outside of the post, similarly Ben Henery made a fine goal saving tackle for the Dons, and Charlie Dennis, hit a great free kick against the post for the Youth.In extra time, either side could have won it.
But to decide the match we went into the dreaded penalities.
Unfortunately Troy Murray put the first penalty just past the post for the Youth, which maybe gave the Dons a psychological advantage.Great penalties followed from both sides, with Sonny Russell, Charlie Dennis and Luke Ewing converting for the Youth, and Ben Henery, Will Marlow, Elliot Mitchell, and Peter Hames all scoring for the Dons, then up stepped Timmy De Silva for the Youth, and the Dons Keeper Rob Marsden made a great save to put the Dons through to their second final for the season winning on penalties 4-3.
With these two excellent teams competing at this high level looks very good for AFC Wimbledon in the future. |
