Match report
With the league title already won the previous week, it was a pleasant surprise for the boys to have the chance to play on the 1st teams pitch at Kingsmeadow, many thanks go to Paul Bentley who organised the pitch.
Aldershot have always been tough opponents, and they needed a draw to finish 3rd, so a tough game was expected.
But the Dons soon took control, playing awesome football. The impressive Harrison Dunk fired home the first, from a good cross from David Faiynor. Then David himself scored from an overhead bicycle kick. The Dons were well worth the 2-0 scoreline at half time.
As soon as the second half started, both David Faiynor and Harrison Dunk added well taken goals to make it 4-0, and then David Faiynor went on to add a further two, with Aldershot scoring a consolation goal, to make the final score an impressive 6-1.
There were great performances from Michael Kyere, Elliot Mitchell, Harrison Dunk, Will Marlow and Jamie Streat in midfield. David Faiynor and Peter Hames up front. Lewis West, Ed Bell, Godfrey Ayere, Ben Henery, Danny Gridley, and Kieron Garland in defence.
Rob Marsden had very little to do in goal, but kept his defence well marshalled, with his commanding voice.
The Dons, won the title by an impressive 8 points, scored the most goals, let in the least, and therefore had the best goal difference, and dropped only 5 points.
Congratulations and thanks go to Nick Mason (manager) who over the last 42 weeks has made this squad what it is with his enthusiasm and tactical awareness, and bulit up a great team spirit.
They still have the County cup final to look forward to v. Sutton United, the double winners from the Tandridge league, on sunday 14th May k.o. 2pm at Chipstead FC. |
