AFC Wimbledon Girls 3 Hamsey Wildcats

The Dons returned with fine style for their first game of the New Year. Other games were cancelled due to the weather.
The Dons set out to attack at first opportunity and lead with a 4-3-3 system.

Liz Ebers scored Dons first goal in 10 minutes from a well worked cross. Training and good systems of play held up the progress of Hamsey who went in at half time with nothing to show for a game dominated by Wimbledons progressive workrate and confidence.

The second half saw Liz Ebers score a second goal and an excellent strike by Liz saw us grow in confidence. Hamsey scored two goals within eight minutes and a real battle began with both sides throwing everything to win this game. The game in the second half
saw shots on target from both teams and near chances leaving the game really open until Victoria Bailey was fouled just outside the Hamsey 18 yard area.

Olivia Golder again working on a free kick scored 3 minutes before the final whistle to secure the games for AFC Wimbledon.
Changes made in the system/shape reflect the ability and confidence of the team to play. 3 strikers up front can intimidate any team and it worked well for a time.

We also made changes with Jenny Nunn ( Captain) switching to right back when Tara SURI and Holly were replaced. We used Victoria Bailey and Maisie Bolt as cover in midfield. We also changed Olivia Golder from right midfield to a tactical sweeper in defence for the final five minutes of the game.

All our squad substitutes were used in this game and we savoured the chance to show we really do mean business. Those three points with the previous game conceded by Bedfont saw us climb
up the premiership table. This U14 side has grown and developed and blossomed into a really strong squad with winning style and attitude to match.

Fitness, confidence and style we are moving in the right direction for 2007.
