Saturday 31 January 2009 first team news Dons win top of the table clash Wimbledon confirmed their position at the top of the table as they beat rivals Chelmsford City 3 – 1, in a match played before a record crowd of 4690 with a couple of hundred more fans unfortunately locked out for safety reasons. The hero was once again Jon Main, who scored in the 18th and 28th minutes to put the Dons two goals ahead by half time. The visitors raised their game early in the second half and although they enjoyed a lot of possession, they rarely threatened James Pullen’s goal. However, they did pull a goal back after 64 minutes when Kevin James bundled the ball home following a free kick out on the left. The Dons wrapped up the points a minute from time when Tom Davis passed the ball home following an earlier miss from Sam Hatton from about the same position. Terry Brown was delighted with the result. “I am of course very pleased that after a number of reverses against Chelmsford in our last few matches we were able to come out on top and secure the three points. “As I said before the match, there are still 45 points to play for and a lot more work to be done before the end of the season. I thought Chelmsford played well at times and enjoyed a lot of possession. However, when you have a strike force of Jon Main and Danny Kedwell they are always likely to get you goals, and today Jon scored two more to maintain the incredible record he has set since the start of the New Year. “I thought our defence was again sound with Ben Judge and Jason Goodliffe providing a difficult barrier to breach, and it was a very encouraging debut by full-back Andy Sambrook. “The boys will have Tuesday night off to give them a rest after a run of three games in eight days, before preparing for the visit to St Albans where I am sure we will again have a difficult match.”

Friday 30 January 2009 first team news Andy signs and Stevie says goodbye Earlier today Andy Sambrook signed for the Dons and, with the administration now complete, he is available for tomorrow's game against Chelmsford. Andy is a right back who has played well over 100 games at Conference level. He started his career at Gillingham before making a move to New York where he combined his football career with further education. Andy's next move was back to England when he signed for signed for Rushden & Diamonds, making about 50 starts before transferring to Grays Athletic in the summer of 2005. Andy made over 80 appearances at Grays and won the "Chairman's Player of the Year" trophy for season 2006-07. Andy moved to Fisher Athletic from where he moved, in November, to Thurrock FC. The club had him watched and made an approach for him last week. Terms were agreed earlier this week, allowing him to train with his new team mates last night. Terry Brown said "Everyone knows we've been looking for a right back and Andy fits the bill perfectly. He is a very good defender, experienced at Blue Square Premier level, dependable and solid, but he is also comfortable on the ball and going forward. We have been wanting to release Sam Hatton back into midfield and now we can do so." Meanwhile, by mutual agreement Steve Gilbert has cancelled his contract and is expected to transfer to Walton & Hersham where one of his first games will be against table-topping Kingstonian on Monday. Terry Brown said "Our very best wishes and thanks to Stevie who is a young player with lots of talent but who is keen to get first team football, which we currently can't offer him."
Friday 30 January 2009 club news Get down to the ground early tomorrow! The squad had a light training session last night and the team is picked. The pitch is being rolled and the lines marked as we write. Assuming that the formalities are completed successfully we will be announcing our new signing later today - he will go straight into the squad for tomorrow's game. There will be a bumper crowd here tomorrow and we encourage fans to arrive early. We've made additional bar and catering arrangements for the game, as set out below. Bars . Both the main bar and the back will open at noon . There will be extra pumps serving lager in the main bar, from noon Food . The weather forecast is good, so before the game there will be a barbecue outside the main bar, open from about 12.15 pm and serving the usual sausages and burgers. We will also offer a hearty home-made beef stew cooked in red wine, with vegetables and a piece of French bread. Or, if you prefer, there are jacket potatoes with a choice of fillings, including chilli, tuna mayo, prawn cocktail, cheese and coleslaw We plan that the barbecue will remain open until the start of the match, subject to demand, and, in any event, until at least 1.45pm . The Tempest End outlet will be open from when the gates open, offering the usual menu . The Kingston road outlet will also open at the same time as the gates, with the usual menu . The 'Tea pot', at the corner of the John Smith stand and the Tempest End will be open with its usual fare of snacks, sandwiches and drinks . We are pleased to say that arrangements are underway to re-open the temporary outlet at the corner of the Kingston Road End and the John Smith stand. Provided that all goes well, this will enable us to house away fans in the north end of the John Smith stand and the Kingston Road end will revert to Wimbledon fans. This outlet will also open at the same time as the gates are opened It is likely to be a very large crowd tomorrow so we urge fans to arrive early, have a quiet drink, grab some food and soak up the atmosphere. There will be more news later today on arrangements for access and ticket purchase - and, hopefully, our new signing...
Thursday 29 January 2009 first team news Terry on Chelmsford After the exertions at Bishop's Stortford, the squad is having a light training session tonight in preparation for the clash with Chelmsford. While both managers have reminded everyone that there are many more points to play for after Saturday's game, there is no doubt in anyone's mind that taking all three points would be a massive boost for the winners. We spoke to Terry Brown this afternoon, while he was finalising his tactics and making his team selection for the game. "Saturday's game against Chelmsford has all the ingredients for one of the most exciting games of the season. The fact that we have had to win eight of our last nine games to catch up with Chelmsford is testimony to how good a side they are. I think there will be very little to choose between the sides and I hope that our fantastic recent form going into the game will give us the impetus to exact a little bit of revenge for last year's encounters. "Whatever happens on the day there will still be 45 points to play for after the game. The title certainly won't be decided at Kingsmeadow on Saturday but whichever side is victorious on the day, they will feel they have gained some psychological advantage. "As far as the team is concerned we have a very strong side available to us and I am in the pleasant position of having to make some very difficult decisions as regards the starting eleven. I am pleased to say that the current run has seen nearly everybody in the squad come in to perform very well, whatever side I've picked over the last six weeks. There has been very little to choose between anyone in our squad. "The encouraging thing about this is that we have a very strong squad of players and I expect we will continue to draw on them through the next fourteen weeks. "Lastly, I was again impressed with the sheer number of fans we took to our away game at Bishop's Stortford on a cold, midwinter Tuesday night. They made a phenomenal amount of noise, even when we were a bit under the cosh. I hope we give them something to cheer early in the game but I know that in every big game we've played they have been behind us all the way. On behalf of all the team I want to thank the fans and ask for more of the same on Saturday!"

Tuesday 27 January 2009 first team news Dons back on top Wimbledon returned to the top of the Blue Square South after a hard-fought 1 - 0 victory at Bishop's Stortford. In a game where Bishop's Stortford played well, it was the solitary goal from Danny Kedwell after 58 minutes that gave the Dons their three points to put them above Chelmsford City on goal difference. Terry Brown was in a happy but realistic mood after the game. “First of all respect and credit to a young Bishop’s Stortford side who, on another night, could easily have come away with all three points. From a manager’s point of view one of the most satisfying feelings is that we have won tonight without being at our best. To win a league you need to win games when you have not played well and that is something we haven’t been able to do in the past. “In the games against Dorchester Town and tonight we have struggled to get going but have come away with four points from a possible six. These points gained will be equally as important as the three points that are on offer in the game against Chelmsford on Saturday. For the first time we are in a better run of from than Chelmsford and all the players are excited about the prospect of Saturday’s game and avenging the last couple of defeats against them. “My main task now is to ensure all the players have a rest between now and Saturday. We looked a little leggy in the second half and some of my senior players will be doing little work at training on Thursday. They have worked hard as the games have come thick and fast and are being played on very soft pitches. “It is very pleasing that we can bring in players who have recently been sitting on the bench and they have performed equally as well as those who have been playing more regularly. It was also good to see the skipper back to his best form. “I will now have the unenviable and difficult task of sitting down and selecting a starting 11 for Saturday”.

Monday 26 January 2009 first team news Terry on Bishop's Stortford While everyone is looking at our league position compared to Chelmsford, Terry Brown is all too aware of the pitfalls that face the team if they lose concentration in tomorrow night's league game at Bishop's Stortford. "Tuesday's game finally gives us the opportunity to catch up with Chelmsford both on games and on points, if we were to win. The target prior to Christmas was to get within touching distance of Chelmsford prior to our game on Saturday. Thanks to the hard work by all our squad we will be within touching distance of them on Saturday. "However, it is very important that, at this moment, we concentrate on Tuesday's game, because it would be all-too-easy to spoil our recent run by taking our eye off what is the priority and that, of course, is always the next game and the next three points we are battling for. It is down to Stuart and me to make sure the players stay focused and we will make sure that happens. "We go into tomorrow night's game full of confidence and on the back of a very good run. We have watched Bishop's Stortford over the last two games in which they have beaten two strong play-off challengers, by winning at Welling and then beating Maidenhead at home. Therefore both sides will go into Tuesday's game full of confidence. "Since our initial encounter they have changed management and the results have certainly picked up recently. As far as our team is concerned we have several injuries we picked up on Saturday, although at this moment in time only Kennedy Adjei has been ruled out with a dead leg. "The injuries will stretch our squad but I am very happy with the quality of players who are coming in to replace them - they are every bit as good as the players they are replacing."

Saturday 24 January 2009 first team news Fluent Dons keep on scoring Wimbledon maintained their wonderful start to the New Year with a great performance against Braintree Town which saw them score five goals for the second time in three weeks, and a third Jon Main hat-trick of the season. Terry Brown was forced to make one change to the line that had started against Maidenhead United, with Jason Goodliffe replacing the injured Jake Leberl. The Dons got off to the perfect start when Sam Hatton scored direct from a free kick after just six minutes, following a foul on Kennedy Adjei which led to his retirement from the game 20 minutes later. On the half hour mark, Main opened his account after being put in by Tom Davis and seven minutes later he got on the end of a deflected Hatton shot to score easily past Craig Holloway. The entertainment continued in a very open match when Danny Hockton pulled one back for the visitors just before half time when he volleyed home from inside the penalty area after he had got the better of Goodliffe in the air. Main made a perfectly timed run to latch onto the ball and score his hat-trick within three minutes of the start of the second half. The Dons continued to create opportunities and on another day Danny Kedwell could easily have had a hat-trick himself. The final goal came four minutes from time when Dwane Lee arrived at the far post to volley home Chris Hussey’s inswinging corner. Terry Brown was not unnaturally in exuberant mood. “What a fantastic performance and we probably played as good as we have all season. We played with a swagger and created some wonderful opportunities, with great movement on and off the ball. “Although Jon Main will undoubtedly grab the headlines, the skill and work rate of his ten colleagues was a pleasure to behold. We restricted a very good Braintree Town side who have only been beaten once in nine games, and, at times, tore them apart. “What also pleased me was the performance of the substitutes who came on and performed without disrupting the fluency and commitment of the team. A starting eleven without the injured Jake Leberl was soon without Kennedy Adjei, and Sam Hatton put in a great performance as he had to go from right back to centre midfield and back to right back again to replace the injured Ben Judge. “I will be seating down to discuss with physiotherapist, Mike Rayner, which players we should take a risk with on Tuesday, and who should take a rest. With Bishop’s Stortford beating Maidenhead United by two goals to nil we know we will be in for a difficult time on Tuesday night”.

Friday 23 January 2009 first team news Terry on Braintree Braintree Town come to Kingsmeadow tomorrow, seeking to reverse the Dons' win at Cressing road earlier this season when 'The Iron' were in the middle of a run of six defeats in the first eight games of the season. Since then they have strengthened their side and are now in a respectable twelfth position and have suffered only one defeat in their last ten league games. Terry Brown is more than aware that there is lots of quality in the Braintree squad and he knows that tomorrow's game will be a real test for his team, who are themselves in the middle of an impressive run of six wins in the last seven games. When we spoke to him, he was also conscious of the opportunity that the next two games offers the Dons as they challenge Chelmsford for top spot. "Saturday's game against Braintree takes on more significance than normal with an opportunity for us to finally close the gap on Chelmsford if (a) we can secure a win and (b) Chelmsford slip up. Our target over the last couple of months has been to get within touching distance of Chelmsford by the time we play them and therefore the next two games are very important as far at that is concerned. "Our form of late has been very good and with the exception of Jake Leberl, who has a slight hamstring problem, we should be able to pick from a full squad on Saturday. "We had Braintree watched last week against Eastleigh and the report back was that they should have won comfortably on the day and were very unfortunate to concede a 90th minute equaliser. "The Braintree squad contains several quality Conference players who, on their day, can hurt any side and we will obviously have to be particularly careful to watch out for the scoring prowess of Danny Hockton. "I'm frequently asked if we plan to strengthen the squad now that we are into the second half of the season. As far as our current squad is concerned I am very happy with it and if there is an area where we might need to strengthen it is probably right back. Sammy has proved he is very effective there but I think we miss him in midfield. So, like any manager, I am always on the lookout but we aren't thinking in terms of major changes, just a little bit of fine tuning, at the right time. In other words, we won't be rushing into anything."

He continues to gig on the comedy circuit and is also adding many corporate clients to his growing fan base. Rainer Hersch (Opening Act) Rainer Hersch is a musician and comedian who performs on every major comedy stage in Britain and abroad. He has appeared eight times at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, toured Canada five times and performed in comedy clubs all across Europe and in TV shows around the world. As a straight stand-up, Rainer Hersch's innovative style crosses between verbal and hilarious visual comedy. Whatever his role on stage, Rainer's energy is immediately passed on to his audience and the rapport he generates is boisterous and fun. In 1996 Rainer combined stand-up comedy with his continued fanaticism for classical music to produce "All Classical Music Explained" - a simple and stupid approach to the difficult subjects "How to play instruments without practising"; "Why is organ music so boring?" and "What do conductors actually do?". The result was an immediate hit with all kinds of audiences. "Most of what Rainer Hersch does doesn't bear explaining. But it will make you laugh" Orlando Sentinel "Rainer Hersch is a rarity amongst musical comedians - he is funny" The London Daily Telegraph "A guaranteed laugh every four bars" The Scotsman Electric Forecast (MC) Electric Forecast (Dan Wright & Steve Marsh) is an exciting and enriching new style of double act - a unique coupling of upbeat physical and observational comedy with slick synchronized interactions. Dan Wright and Stephen Marsh burst onto the comedy scene in 2001 and quickly made a name for themselves as a young, slick and original duo. Such is their chemistry, that it was only a matter of time before TV spotted their potential. As presenters they've just finished a 6 month stint at Nuts TV, presenting 2 hours of live TV, 2 nights a week. In 2007 they presented Big Brother's Big Mouth (E4), Crash Test Dummies (Sky 1 , 20 x 30 min series) and Celebrities Uncensored (FIVE , 4 x 60 min series). Dan also presented (on his own ) ’F… Off I’m Ginger’ - a documentary for BBC 3. As actors, they've recently filmed a sitcom pilot with Jones The Film (which they co-wrote) and appeared in Kingdom (ITV1) playing brothers running rival burger vans. Steve has a role in the new Ken Loach movie (playing the lead bad guy) and they're also developing sitcoms with Objective Productions and RDF Television. “The first thing you notice is how striking a partnership this is... a high degree of comedy skill...Outstanding comperes." Monday 19 January 2009 dons trust news More Dinner with Dickie guests We are pleased to announce the next two special guests to be joining Dickie Guy, in addition to Allen Batsford and Dave Bassett, at the fundraising dinner on 20 February. Ian Cooke joined the Dons in October 1963 from Westminster Bank F.C. and worked his way to the first team by November 1964. His contribution to the club was immense and he captained the all-conquering Dons through three consecutive league championships and the incredible F.A. Cup run of 1974-75. Although starting as a forward, he soon converted to midfield and scored an amazing 297 goals in 615 appearances for the club. Ian was ever-present until the 1976-77 season, when the club joined the Football League and it was no longer possible for Ian to balance his footballing career with a senior position in National Westminster Bank. Ian remains active within AFC Wimbledon and is a regular supporter at home and away games. Ex- Fulham defender Jeff Bryant joined the Dons in 1972 and soon established himself as a regular member of the first team squad. As a fast, uncompromising player, he quickly became a favourite with the fans and scored a number of vital goals for the club. In 1976 he scored the first of three goals at Leatherhead, to earn us a place in the all-important F.A. Cup Third Round. Our reward was a home tie with Middlesbrough and that ended 0 - 0. We lost the replay at Ayresome Park, by 1 - 0 as Dave Armstrong fell outside the area and managed to slide on the snow-bound pitch, into the penalty area. He got up to convert the resulting kick himself. Look out over coming days for announcements of further special guests joining Dickie, Allen, Harry, Ian and Jeff for what promises to be a very entertaining evening. To find out more about the dinner and how to apply for tickets, please visit here.

Saturday 17 January 2009 first team news Dons enjoy their away day at Maidenhead Wimbledon completed their fourth double of the sesaon with an excellent win over play-off chasing Maidenhead United. Two goals from the returning Jon Main, who had recovered from the back injury that had prevented him from playing at Dorchester, and a goal apiece from Danny Kedwell and Sam Hatton, was enough to see off the Magpies. Terry Brown made one other change from the team that had started the Dorchester game with Tony Finn returning to midfield and Kennedy Adjei moving to the bench. The Dons took the lead after 17 minutes when a Hatton free kick from 25 yards whistled into the top corner of the net. Kedwell steered home a Main cross from the right after 37 minutes to give the Dons that important two goal lead at the interval. Even better was to come for the visitors just two minutes into the second half when Kedwell crossed to the near post and Elliott Godfrey making an intelligent run saw his header well saved by goalkeeper, Shane Gore. However the ball fell into the six yard box where Main was first to the ball and he gladly knocked it home. The home team had spells where they saw a lot of possession but they were unable to find their way past a resolute defence who blocked a number of goalbound efforts, or James Pullen, who pulled off a couple of excellent saves. Main completed the scoring after 78 minutes when he latched on to a long through ball from Ben Judge, held off his marker and stroked the ball past the advancing Gore. A happy Terry Brown was keeping his feet firmly on the ground. "I thought it was a magnificent result for us today, although the 4 - 0 scoreline did flatter us slightly. The difference on the day between the two sides was that we finished our opportunities clinically, and they were wasteful. "In addition, we scored our goals at the right time. For periods during the game they exerted pressure on us but we were able to withstand that and then go on to score ourselves. In Jon Main and Danny Kedwell we clearly have the best two front runners in the league and their contribution has been magnificent. "I thought that we did have the run of the green and that we could have defended better as a team, especially in the second half. I thought it was a particularly good performance by James Pullen who made a couple of marvellous saves. Other than a slight strain to Jake Leberl, there were only the usual minor bumps and bruises and we are looking forward in a positive mood to our forthcoming games against Braintree Town, Bishop's Stortford and of course the big one, Chelmsford City."

Friday 16 January 2009 first team news Terry looks forward to Maidenhead and salutes the fans AFC Wimbledon go into the game at Maidenhead tomorrow seeking to continue their recent run of six league games unbeaten. While the Dons had a difficult and draining match at Dorchester in midweek, Maidenhead haven't played a league game since New Year's Day when they reversed the scores from their Boxing Day game against Hayes and Yeading, running out comfortable 2-0 winners. Maidenhead had a very strong start to the season, winning four and drawing two of their first six games. They currently sit just outside a play off place. Had it not been for a disastrous November, when they lost four out of five league games, including three home games on the trot, they would no doubt be pushing for a top two spot today. They pose a threat to the Dons, not least with Richard Pacquette, who is second in the Blue Square South goalscorers' chart, behind Jon Main. It was Pacquette who scored an excellent goal at Kingsmeadow when the teams met earlier in the season. But when we spoke to Terry Brown earlier today, he was most focused on the continued wonderful support the team has been getting from the fans. First, however, he talked about tomorrow's game. "Saturday's game against Maidenhead offers us another opportunity to get closer to Chelmsford. Maidenhead started the season very well and, being local to myself, I know all of their players well. Drax's teams are always entertaining and competitive. Having talked to Dwane Lee, who knows many of their players from his time there last season, I'm in no doubt that they will be up for Saturday's game. "Tuesday's game against Dorchester took a lot out of the lads but I am glad to say that most of them were fit and trained well yesterday. Jon Main is fit and available for selection and there are slight injury doubts regarding both Elliott Godfrey and Danny Kedwell. Mickey Haswell has slightly damaged his medial ligaments whilst at work and will not be available for the weekend. Alan Inns will come into the squad, following his return from suspension. "Last year's visit to York Road in the FA Trophy was a memorable one and I know that, owing to the accessibility of the stadium, we should take a good following tomorrow. The support the players had on Tuesday night in a very difficult game was absolutely fantastic, especially when we went 1-0 down - their encouragement really helped the boys to fight back. "If we had any illusions that the second half of the season would be any easier than the first, they were certainly dispelled by a very spirited and talented Dorchester side. Your support in the second half of the season will be as vital as ever and I know the players really appreciate it."

Wednesday 14 January 2009 first team news Honours even after an entertaining game Wimbledon settled for a point against Dorchester Town after a competitive, open game which in the end could have gone either way. Terry Brown was forced to make one change from the team that had played Bognor Regis, with Belal Aiteouakrim replacing the injured Jon Main. Both teams had chances in the first half with Tom Davis, Danny Kedwell and Elliott Godfrey coming closest for the Dons, and Jamie Mudge and Ryan Moss for the Magpies. It was the home team that drew first blood after 59 minutes, when good work down the left by Ronayne Marsh-Brown resulted in a goalmouth scramble following his cross, and eventually Moss forced the ball over the line with a back heel. The Dons reacted very positively and just eight minutes later scored the equaliser. A free kick taken from the right by Chris Hussey was flicked goalwards by Jason Goodliffe, only to be denied by a flying Gareth Stewart. However, he was only able to palm the ball out, where Kedwell headed home via the underside of the bar. Both teams had chances to score the winning goal. Mudge missed a penalty after 80 minutes, when he shot wide of the post, and then Tony Finn escaped the attentions of four defenders only to pull his shot wide of the far post. At the final whistle, Terry Brown was happy with the result. "It was a very hard fought, well earned point. It was an open game with both sides giving everything they had. I was very impressed with Dorchester, who played good football throughout, and gave us our hardest game of the season. The boys came off the pitch very tired after the tremendous work they had put in. "I thought Dorchester's Kevin Hill was the best player on the pitch. He stifled our attacking options and was often the instigator of their attacking play. I thought Danny Kedwell worked particularly hard and fully deserved his equalising goal. "The pitch was very heavy and our midfield never really got going. I have no complaints about the result and was pleased that we came away with a point. Finally, the team really appreciated the phenomenal turnout at Dorchester on a Tuesday night, and this was a true testament to what this club is all about."
Wednesday 14 January 2009 club news Under 19 match postponed Today's Under 19 match against St Albans City has been postponed due to an unplayable pitch. It will be rescheduled shortly.
Monday 12 January 2009 first team news Terry on Dorchester and Dwane Lee Terry Brown was looking forward to getting back to action on the pitch after a ten day break. “In the end, not having a game last Saturday did not have any adverse affect on us with all the matches being called off because of the weather. The game against Dorchester now gives us a great opportunity to reduce the deficit on Chelmsford to just three points, and will keep us in touch with them until we meet at the end of the month. “We have had a great run of results and it is important that the momentum we have built up is maintained. The squad has trained three times since our last game against Bognor Regis despite the poor weather, and they are all looking forward to the game. I hope that all the squad will be able to travel, although there are some injury doubts to our strike force of Jon Main and Danny Kedwell. “I am also pleased that we have now been able to sign Dwane Lee on a contract until the end of the season. Dwane has played an important role in our recent run and has added strength and height to the midfield. He has a wealth of experience and was part of the Barnet side that won the Conference title, and he will be a key figure as we approach the business end of the season.”
Sunday 11 January 2009 ladies news Ladies game postponed This afternoon's fixture against Wingate & Finchley Ladies has been postponed after a 9am pitch inspection found the pitch frozen.
Saturday 10 January 2009 dons trust news Dinner with Dickie - Dickie's guests We are pleased to announce the first two special guests to be joining Dickie Guy at the fundraising dinner on 20th February. Our first guest, Allen Batsford, joined Wimbledon as manager in 1974, after steering Walton and Hersham to Wembley and an Amateur Cup Final victory over Slough. On his arrival the Dons had only seven registered players in the squad, including Dickie Guy, Ian Cooke and Jeff Bryant and yet he was to build a team that won the Southern League Cup, the London Senior Cup twice and crucially the Southern League Championship three years running. It was this remarkable achievement that transformed a mid-table Southern League side into a football league side in 1977 and, together with the F.A. Cup exploits of 1974-5, made Wimbledon part of football folklore throughout the country. Also, back by popular demand after a very memorable dinner in 2006, is Dave “Harry” Bassett. Harry joined the Dons from Walton and became part of the great "Batsford Boys" team that won three consecutive Southern League titles and promotion to the Football League in 1977. As captain, midfielder Harry led from the front and quickly became a Dons favourite. In 1981, Harry became the "Gaffer" and continued the rise through the football league. Finally, in 1986, the Dons reached the top flight and under his guidance actually topped the first division for a short period. He left for Elton John's Watford in 1987 having completed the weird and wonderful journey - from Southern League to the very top of the First Division. To find out more about the dinner and how to apply for tickets, please click here. Details of further guests will be revealed over coming weeks.

Wednesday 07 January 2009 dons trust news Quiz The Dons Trust Candidates The next Dons Trust election is now approaching, and as with previous elections, WISA is continuing the tradition of supplying all the candidates with a questionnaire. We are giving supporters the opportunity to submit suggestions for questions to ask. Please send them to secretary@wisa.org.uk by close of play on Sunday, 11th January, making them as clear and unambiguous as you can. The answers from candidates will be published on the WISA website as soon as practically possible. This does not form any part of the official electoral process and candidates are under no obligation to respond, but we feel it is very useful for Dons Trust members to read and compare answers from the different candidates, and for the candidates to expand on their manifestos. We may not be able to use all the questions that are put forward, so we would advise all Dons Trust members to keep their eyes peeled for opportunities to meet the candidates in person and quiz them face to face.

Sunday 04 January 2009 first team news Terry on the Bognor game and Christmas period Terry was reflecting on another victory as the run of league wins continued. "Saturday's game against Bognor Regis came just 48 hours after our home game against Fisher Athletic and we therefore decided to rest one or two players to make sure that everyone who did play was 100% fit. "Thanks to the miraculous work by our physio, Mike Rayner, Danny Kedwell went from a possible two weeks' absence because of a calf strain, to cramp, and he was therefore able to start the game. "Danny proved again to be one of our most influential players with two well-taken goals. Although the scoreline suggests otherwise, Bognor did cause us one or two alarming moments and got behind our defence on two or three occasions. "It is always hard to get the opening goal, and we made several good scoring opportunities before we got on the scoresheet. It was pleasing to see Kennedy Adjei make a surging run into the box, and head home the super ball from Dwane Lee. Once we had got that goal, there was only going to be one winner. "We were fortunate to be one of only four games played because of the weather, and it was important that we kept our run going, especially as we have no game next Saturday. This brings our run of league victories to five, and we could have not asked better for a return of 16 goals scored, and two against. "It will always be the case that as long as we beat the teams we ought to beat, we will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. It has been a great Christmas period and a good start to the year in terms of results and performance."

Saturday 03 January 2009 first team news Bognor Regis game goes ahead We have heard from Bognor this morning that despite an overnight frost the pitch is thawing and is playable and the game will go ahead.
Friday 02 January 2009 first team news Terry on New Year games Terry was in a happy mood after the team's latest victory. "The victory over Fisher Athletic gave us a fantastic start to the New Year, with a really professional display on a bone-hard and difficult pitch. "Although Fisher will not be the strongest side we have to play this season, I was very pleased that in the two games against them, we limited them to one major chance and I was delighted with the defending. We kept our patience and were rewarded with three goals, two of which were very well taken by Jon Main and Danny Kedwell. "It was also nice to be able to give Jack Stafford his league debut and I thought that apart from his hasty tackle, he acquitted himself very well. If we can give him another run out against Bognor Regis we will, but I don't envisage many changes. Danny Kedwell is doubtful with a possible calf strain, although it may just be severe cramp. Elliott Godfrey is now fit and available for selection, and I am juggling with his and Tony Finn's fitness as to who plays. "We go into the game on the back of three 3 - 0 victories and it is important that we win tomorrow to maintain the pressure on Chelmsford."
